It looks like Sony paid for at least that commercial and I’m guessing they’re footing the bill for a bunch of the marketing.

Square Enix acts as if every game has to make the same sales as GTA V, even when they’re only contractually bound to one platform. Square doesn’t seem to understand that with exclusive contracts you give up long term sales on multiple platforms in order to be able to earn immediately thanks to the money the platform holder gives you.
That’s true, but it feels like on both sides paying this much to exclude pc isn’t wise. However, I guess for Sony it’s worth it if it gets people to buy PS5s to play this game . On Square’s end it doesn’t seem wise to stall growth to take moneyhat to exclude pc
Maybe not. It kind of depends on what kind of deal they were able to strike with PlayStation. If PlayStation is desperate enough they may be offering much more than what they would lose on sales. Not to mention it seems like they were able to negotiate a shorter exclusivity window this time. Since it seems like they are preparing to get acquired, so short term profits may be all they are concerned with.

I don’t see Sony trying to acquire Square unless there is a credible threat of MS trying to get them. Otherwise it’s the whole “why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free” ( or in this case at a discount compared to the competition) type thing for them.

MS isn’t the only company that could purchase them. Soon Nintendo is likely going to have a system they can target their higher end games on. The cost of exclusivity is going to sky rocket in the coming years, especially if Xbox is able to get their studios pumping out content and likely increase their market share as well.
Sony kids would cry unimaginable amounts of tears if Nintendo acquired SE, taking away their sweet sweet FF.

I didn’t really mean to imply that Nintendo would purchase them (it doesn’t really seem like their MO; at least not at the moment), more that they’d be more lucrative as a multi-platform developer so they could be a target for other publishers.
The marketing was almost entirely on Sony. As I said in this thread before another reason Square enjoys exclusivity is because the platform holder they work with does the marketing of their game for them (Nintendo with their various HD2D exclusives). I’d say very little came out of Square’s pocket marketing this game.
Is FF fans this toxic or is PS diehards are in it? You cannot say not one negative about it. Not one. Also, the sale excuse is making goalpost for Xbox’s success look easy to obtain.

FF has always had an extremely vocal fanbase so when you combine that and toxic PS fanboyism, you get a real treat
Although tbh, I was expecting worse, as bad as the defence has been for this game it doesn’t compare to something like TLOU

Skipping pc atleast is dumb. I don’t think this game will have legs as august and September are stacked months.
It’s a fair bit less than previous titles, it’s absolutely not something to celebrate
