Square Enix and Xbox

So the SE presentation is live now. Pretty much all of their Japanese games are skipping xbox. Even that yoko taro card game. I think only the ff souls game is coming to Xbox and obviously the western games.

I find hilarious that a huge multi billion dollar publisher “can’t justify” a Xbox port, but ID@Xbox teams, maybe at their first game for the platform, can do it.

This is just a show for Japan and there is little point in Square pushing XBox titles in its show. I bet MS will do a deal to make sure some of the games come to the Xbox platform

Keep in mind there are also SE games skipping PlayStation.

It will probably get ports later. Some do after a while.

I mean the low budget ones that are shovelware that is easier to throw them on the switch and pc.

I think this is a giant missed opportunity for Xbox and Xcloud.

They should have developed some apis to allow the game to change console prompts and to repackage xcloud games as standalone games on other platforms.

Then go to Square and say: Here, you can make any game compatible with switch using our framework with insane discounts compared to running your solution, just port/launch to xbox as well.

(I realize this particular game is on xbox, but I mean all the others that skip it)

Possibly, but in the spirit of making it all about ME, I don’t want the limited consoles in the data-centers running games I don’t play if it means I’ll have to wait longer to play my xCloud games.

Cloud versions? Hahaha hahaha

3 I understand. But 1 and 2? These games ran on PS3

So these cloud-only Switch games like Control etc. You pay $60 for access to the streamed game and you’re just kinda trusting that the streaming server will be available forever? That seems kinda :grimacing:

Me neither, lol. People are obsessed by this thing about MS helping Nintendo without reason. Moreover these are Square Enix games, there is nothing more distant from Xbox, lol.

Neither do I

The cloud thing right now works as gamepass games only

I will never buy a cloud only game even at a discount. Not happening.

It’s not even about that. The switch is an abysmal system for cloud gaming due to its awful internet solutions.

Yeah, wifi chipset is trash for modern standards and you need an adapter for ethernet until the new model is out, lol.

Microsoft offers their cloud as the back end, games need to be developed to support Xbox to support it. Xbox gets games as a result.

MS offering its cloud for SE games on Switch is nothing short of scifi. XD

Nintendo already has their own cloud service thing to work with.

If xbox has to offer square a cloud back end to get games then the system is in a worse state than we imagined.

Does Nintendo actually have the infrastructure for streaming, or is it on the third parties to provide their own?

Companies want to make switch versions of games switch can’t run natively.

So said companies make their own infra to stream the game to switch only, sometimes even exclusive to japan to offer this version.

When Ms has a fully working solution and deployed to almost 30 countries already, that just need some small tweaking to allow publishers to use it to offer standalone games on switch.

So Ms should be levering xcloud as a solution to those publishers in exchange to getting ports for Xbox (and xcloud/gamepass)

Granted, the games launching as cloud version on switch usually already are on xbox, but there are a plethora of multiplat games on xbox that are not on switch, mostly on power/porting costs.

I’m not talking about Nintendo here. But rather a service Ms could sell to publishers to ease porting games to switch through cloud, and offer discounts if the game was launched to xbox.

But those games would be sold as switch games, just as they are right now
