I just saw this. More showing that PS is definitely Octopath 2’s least popular platform (and it may be by a lot). This is from J-Cat from the Installbase forums
Sony did nothing to market Octopath 2 being on PlayStation. Like I said before, to me it feels like that port doesn’t even exist, that’s how little I’ve seen of it. If Sony were paying to keep it off Xbox I’d think they’d be doing a lot to make sure it’s a success on Playstation considering that’s them investing into it.
Microsoft needs exclusives and games that appeal to the Japanese market. This is why they need Japanese devs.
I agree that Xbox should continue with WRPGs and they already basically have the best on lock but they shouldn’t be relying on them alone
If they want to appeal to a worldwide audience they need studios and exclusives from everywhere, WRPGs are definitely bigger now but that doesn’t mean they shouldnt be trying to get there own big Japanese RPGs
While we know Sony are definitely moneyhatting some Square games, this almost certainly isn’t one of them
If it’s not something big like FF, Sony doesn’t give a shit and isn’t going to be moneyhatting that, not to mention it’s on PC/switch as well which makes the idea of moneyhatting even less likely
Square just doesn’t give a damn about xbox, Sony can only be blamed for so much
It’s a chicken or the egg situation at this point. I think we can all agree that Xbox would benefit from a greater presence of Asian games, and the only thing likely to make that happen in a big way is a significant amount of money being poured into those various countries.
I don’t know if there’s any truth to the whole “can’t acquire until ABK is done” but I do think it’s probably something of a barrier. Win or lose, I hope this thing wraps up soon so they can focus their energy and cash elsewhere.
I think SE’s idea is they have invested well in both PlayStation and Nintendo consoles and those investments have matured while Xbox has not. It’s kind of when you have cultivated land well enough to reap. Their idea for Xbox is probably Gamepass and that depends largely on whether Xbox is interested in paying or not. I think SE is more of a company that will come rushing when they see other Japan developers doing well on Xbox, so it’s best Xbox focus on the smaller developers that can bring them a Blue Dragon or Lost odyssey.
Just continue "cultivating a relationship " with Sega and Atlus.
They need to walk on smaller devs as well as those are the ones that tend to come back.
If you want to learn more about these games or others on sale, please tune into our livestream with the Xbox Plays team tomorrow, March 15, at 11:00am PST. We’re excited to play some games and talk about all things Square Enix on Xbox. You can watch the stream through either the Square Enix or Xbox Twitch accounts. No additional announcements will be made at that time.
Best buddies will stream together tomorrow?!?
If anyone from SE is there, I hope the chat becomes overwhelmed with questions about FF7 Remake and OctopathTraveller2 and every other moneyhatted game to exclude Xbox. Don’t let SE off the hook. Pester them completely.
If its only XboxPlays folks, then hope chat is civilized as they can’t do anything about SE being Square.
I still find it funny they put crisis core remake on Xbox.
I’m probably gonna buy a few things from this sale. Definitely octopath
Baffling. Its an insult. But ill get it when its dirst cheap.
Also lol at se games on xbox. Is this some troll attempt or something. Who is in charge of this thin probably a random nobody. I rather fire questions at that Fraud Matsuda.
This is Square, It’s nothing new they’ve always been either SONY or NCL, we had a little love in on the 360 but it wasn’t anything big. MS just need to down their own deals with Japanese corps for the XBox.
To be fair they’ve done reallt good to get Yakuza games and SEGA’s Atlus games to Gamepass and I like to see more of that. Team XBox need to fight exclusives with exclusive from 3rd parties like they once did.
A tragedy in two parts
Yes, obviously another “anything but Xbox” release is a giant slap in the face to the fans and those who have supported SE on the platform from the beginning. No, at this point it’s no longer surprising and I don’t anticipate many (any?) releases coming our way for the foreseeable future.
That said, this company continues to show why it’s perhaps the most incompetently run publisher in the industry. Accepting under the table bribes for exclusivity resulting in lower long term income and pissed off fans alongside the self-destructive attempts to tarnish their own IPs with NFT cash-ins.
So in the end, another SE multiplatform game skips Xbox. The media collectively shrug their shoulders and move on. Sony could well have paid for it, or perhaps they didn’t and got the de facto console exclusivity for free this time. The victims, collateral damage, are those of us who were fans from the beginning, who double and triple dipped on SE games on Xbox and went the extra mile to support the platform. But here’s the rub, SE don’t care about us fans anymore. Time we returned the favour.
Would have loved to replay Live A Live on Xbox despite already having played it on Switch, but I guess Square doesn’t want my money again.
Still zero SE games on Xbox in 2023.
I’ve emotionally moved past Square-Enix games on Xbox. And I like Japanese game a lot. But it’s the healthier attitude to have at this point. Don’t expect many Game Pass deals either, as most Square games now go into PS Plus Extra instead.
