Where are you getting the 80-20 ratio??
Are you talking console sales??
The difference between series and ps5 is fairly close. Not as close as US but 1.5 to 1 is about accurate.

Obligatory Sony and Square Enix contracts mention:
Don’t buy crisis core
This seems to confirm that Final Fantasy XVI will also never be released on Xbox… and maybe Silent Hill 2 too? I really hope Konami hasn’t agreed to a contract like Square Enix’s.
The most interesting thing to me is Square Enix doubling down on their Playstation association and exclusivity at a time when Playstation is not particularly popular in Japan and is weaker in North America this generation and likely to lose the generation in North America overall. This is compounded when Square Enix appears to be one of the only ones making exclusives for their smaller install base of only PS5s.
Well out of the 18 games Square released this year, 13 of them were on Switch. (12 were on PS… 5 were on Xbox)
They support the Switch heavily so while FF is definitely going to suffer in Japan (the preorders for FFXVI in Japan are low, according to GEO charts), Square themselves should be fine in Japan.
The big danger for FFXVI is not being on PC day 1 but at least it will only be 6 months (unless they do the Epic deal again… So far that’s only affected Nomura involved titles though)
The titles that Square has been delivering to switch have been niche and small scale titles that really haven’t sold well. If it was not for the FF14 income right now, Square Enix would be bleeding right now and canceling projects and laying people off.
They are one hiccup basically away from absolutely destroying their company and based on the choices we’ve seen them make, they may have already made the decisions that will lead to their restructuring and sale.
Sidebar: People really need to stop comparing Capcom to SE in terms of lack of Xbox support because they didn’t release the latest Megaman Battle Network Collection. Not nearly in the same ballpark as SE lmao.
If this deal goes through. Sony might be forced to abandon some of these shitty deals
.if they dont. Ms wont give them shit.
I will never support any Square games in the future. Sadly, FF9 is still my most favorite game ever. Even if FF7R, 16 came to Xbox, I would refuse to play. What if it launched on Game Pass you asked, still big NO from me.
I bought Type-0, 15, 8 remaster, KH3, all LiS Day 1 on Xbox. Now I have better JRPG on Xbox than FF like Persona, Yakuza.
See you Square, until you commit to not randomly skip Xbox.
Who the hell is? Capcom have been great. As seen by Rise coming to gamepass.
There are some posts in this thread doing that as well as other forums.
So it was ok when Square shat on SEGA?
Some think just because we didn’t get Battle Network that puts Capcom in the same realm as Square Enix. There was a time where I never though Monster Hunter would come to xbox, I can let go of a Mega Man Battle network slip if that’s all that slips. It would be a different story if they decided to do a HD remake of Mega Man Legends and Misadventures of Tronn Bonne and it landed everywhere but xbox though…Then I’d be like “WTF Capcom?!”
Interesting take by Samurai Kibiji. Cant link to his youtube post but basically he says hes gonna boycot any 3rd party moneyhats that have xbox exclusion deals. This doesnt include timed deals like sifu and ghostwire etc… but games that have permanent no xbox zone
I kind of agree with him. Or ill get them cheap on PC.
FF16 and remake 2 i can wait for. Never going to play these on PS.
At this point, I’m gonna buy FF16 and FF7R2 used. I already have a PS5 but I hate how this has all gone down. It was already obvious to me before this gen started, but it’s pretty much confirmed now: Sony as a corporation and the way they run their deals and consoles is probably the worst thing for this industry.
Sold your PS5 and don’t buy any Square game ever again, problem solve.
I can’t blame Sony for securing exclusives - they do everything to strengthen their brand and made PS appear better in comparison to rival products.
However, for the life of me I cannot comprehend Square Enix’s stance. Xbox Series is outselling 360 life to date and that console reached 80M units. By not cultivating an audience on Xbox, they are cutting themselves off a significant part of the market and making themselves dependent on Sony. There are reasons all other big publishers (EA, ABK, Ubi, T2, Sega, Capcom, Namco Bandai) are pretty much 100% multiplatform.
I think Square Enix is run by the old guard (like see late Sega Japan who were out of touch). Square Enix blamed their western part for not selling well, then they blamed Japan for not giving enough sales. Would not be surprised that they will blame “people are playing on mobile” or “people are playing F2P” later.
My theory is that SE is what one would call, risk adverse. What I think they are doing is selling exclusivity to offset development costs and locking in a nearly guaranteed but smaller profit. What they aren’t doing is developing for as much exposure as possible hoping for a breakout hit. Maybe if the exclusive title does great they go ahead and port it over after the exclusivity period ends (or maybe they get the agreement extended).
Essentially what SE is doing is treating FF like a niche game targeting a small(er) group, but at the same time getting a pay day from Sony.
