It goes without saying that I expect full backwards compatibility for Xbox going forwards.
We are all on the same page here correct?

BC. Yes. No doubt about it.
Next Gen Xbox
Straight from the realm of pure fantasy.

Letâs go!!!
Btw, did you quit discord.
No. Was in vacation
I for once want to see Consoles being built with multiple skus.
Lower, Mid, High and premium.
Your config is at premium. 1500
Series S is lower. 300
Series X is Mid. 500
High. 1000
I thought of a High console SKU with double everything which series X has with Rdna3 and zen 4 cores 32GB ram.
I wonder what switching to ARM means for the architecture going forward. And would they ever pivot over to NVidia for the GPU element, have discrete GPU and CPU as opposed to a SoC.
I think changing to discrete processors would be significantly more expensive and increase motherboard complexity. NVIDIA and AMD should be getting involved in ARM for Windows so they might have high performance ARM SOC in the works.
In order to get economies of larger scale during a time where silicon is really expensive due to AI, the Xbox HW silicons will be dual / triple purposed.
Handheld SOC will be used in Surface, OEM laptop / handhelds. All of them will run the same OS with differences in terms of UX and OS openness. The OS on the Xbox handheld will not allow easy installation outside of stores. An add benefit of this is that if Sony decides to prevent games from launching on Xbox HW theyâre going to be do that to Surface, Asus, Lenovo HW that contains the same chips.
OEM devices:
For example, Xbox handheld specs:
Lenovo Legion Go Fast specs:
Console SOC will be used in Azure data centers.
Regarding the 2026 leak, everything hardware with that leak turned out not to be true⌠So can we even be sure that Xbox will be releasing a console in 2026?
Donât think 2026 was even part of the leaked documents. Believe it came from some AMD lesker, but definitely not a concrete leak.
I still donât see Microsoft switching from AMD which keeps everything from Xbox One/Xbox Series intact and streamlined. Also, I donât see PC store fronts happening unless itâs via streaming only because how would you be able to play a PC game via Steam for example on your Xbox if the specifications arenât there? Whatâs Microsoft going to do? Release a minimum spec, medium spec, high spec and ultra spec consoles at different prices? I still donât see the point of this when the vast majority of games releases on consoles anyway and the only thing you truly miss out on is Early Access which letâs be honest, better off waiting for the 1.0 release regardless of what game or company it is.
Hoping Microsoft simply gives me the best console possible for $500. I would think that they could have the best CPU/GPU available at the time for consoles, 24GB of RAM, 1TB SSD and just make the ONE console easy to develop for and thatâs it. Target 4K/60FPS/HDR/Ray Tracing. Screw 8K. That should be the generation after next.
If they do a handheld which they probably will, then just target 1080P/60FPS/HDR. One thing I have always thought a handheld should have is an Ethernet port. That way, you can get a hardwired connection at home but canât use the primary console and download games faster to the internal SSD since it would be a digital/streaming only handheld as I donât see any physical media making any sense for an Xbox Portable.
I donât get what you mean? PC games are made to scale across different hardware. The game will perform however the game performs on the hardware. There is no guarantee of a certain level of performance. Itâd likely have some recommended settings for the Xbox spec, but could be tweaked as desired like any PC game.
Right and because of that, there would be different console hardware options (like Series X and S) that would run the games better or worse depending on the console you own due to the specifications inside the console.
I donât really want all the console to be exactly like a PC where I can adjust shadows, lighting, etc. I prefer all of that to be preset based on which mode youâre playing in (visuals or performance) and thatâs it.
Weâll see. I just hope itâs one console and a handheld and thatâs it.
You could still have only one box though. The settings for that box would be what makes sense for the particular game and the hardware that ships in the Xbox. I imagine thereâd be a way to deploy Xbox targeted settings.
I think any PC mode would be a fall back option for games that donât get Xbox ports. It doesnât really need to be perfect IMO, itâs the option of playing a game you woildnt be able to otherwise.
One thing I have always wondered would be if a hardware manufacturer would release a console thatâs modular, meaning that you could swap out the CPU, GPU, RAM and SSD. You would think that with Microsoft possibly having Steam and whatnot on their next Xbox console that a modular console would be at least talked about.
Weâll see what happens though.
