Sony PlayStation lays off 900, around 8% cut, and shuts down studio(s) [2024-02-27]

What’s even more sad is if it you read some of her posts in the days leading to being fired she says:

Sometime you work on something so fun its hard to believe it’s your job. This was defintely one of those things. We had to go big for something our fans have been asking so much for and I’m so grateful that we have such a talented team that can bring these crazy ideas to life!:two_hearts:

It seems to me there will be a faster push to PC, Mobile and other devices. When Microsoft puts COD on Game Pass later this year they will market it like Starfield and all their partners like Samsung, Asus, Lenovo, Nvidia and Ubisoft will also participate in the marketing for promoting their respective hardware or services. This will be sure to push or start the Xbox everywhere movement. The big boost will hopefully come for Game Pass and Indiana Jones will follow the same movement if not start it depending on which releases first. Indiana Jones might even get a Disney push. To me consoles as we know it could be on the decline. I would say a big change in the industry is inevitable.

Sony can’t just go down the path of “mega-budget exclusive games but there are fewer of them and they come out farther and farther apart” forever. Something has got to change on a deeper level.

Yeah, PlayStation will get bought by Apple.

Just kidding, or maybe not. But seriously, Sony isn’t rich enough to greenlight multiple 300 million dollar budget games every year. The gaming industry itself isn’t suited for that sort of investment at all (like the first flop with that level of budget will totally destroy the studio responsible for it, like a gaming equivalent of what Cutthroat Island did to Carolco back in 1995).

You know the crazy part is, as quiet it is for Xbox in terms of first party or exclusive (aside from Palworld which threw me off-guard) for this quarter, this game will single-handedly back them up so much.

On OtherEra

Microsoft layoff 8% from its video game workforce discussion - garnered 93 pages

Sony layoff 8% from its video game workforce/ studio closure discussion - garnered 34 pages

And it slowed down considerably… the bias is realllll

That thread was mostly filled with people salty about the ABK acquisition and just wanted an excuse to jump into MS throat.

Dont want to turn this into who is worse or anything like that but compare the reactions of people, devs, the media…etc between the two and the response has clearly been different. Bunch of fucking hypocrites out there (to noones surprise)

If you were walking down the street and some idiot is just babbling in ignorance about some topic, would you stop to listen? If no, then stop visiting places were dumb people gather.
