The push towards GaaS is a gamble for sure, but all they need is for one of these games to take hold like Destiny or Fortnite did for this strategy to be a success. However, I don’t think tasking their highly rated single player story driven studios to pursue this venture is a particularly good idea and I don’t think having Bungie be the arbiters of what studios can and can’t do is a good idea either. Seems like an unnecessary disaster in the making.
This is exactly correct. They fought growth tooth and nail. Now when they’re too small to compete, they are crying about how they can’t release enough games because they don’t have enough studios. Please you were far ahead of Xbox market share, PlayStation failed to invest in the future plain and simple.
As a gamer I want the industry to grow, I want AAA games, variety, value … all the things Xbox has been working towards. Almost on cue, PlayStation turned into arrogant Sony again
Hahahaha. You’re going to lose this bet. If you truly believe that they won’t have ONE great showcase in the next 4+ years, man, I don’t know. I would say that you’re dreaming. lol
I fully convinced if their strategy starts falling apart they will go with this approach, buy already stablished and well run GAAS to cover their weaknesses in the area and thats why I expect them to do a big acquisition in the mobile space.
Back in 2017 Sony 1st party were faaar bigger than Xbox 1st party. Even after XGS grew to 15 studios in 2019, Playstation were still arguably bigger given that Microsoft bought some rather small-ish developers (Double Fine, Compulsion, inXile). So there was no need for Sony to panick and they could form their own strategy of growth without looking at Microsoft all that much.
Now, after Zenimax and ABK the situation is much different, but after Microsoft’s ineptitude during the entire 2010s decade who would have expected such wild swings?
I look at it as being equal or better than the June 2020 PlayStation Showcase which was a great showcase especially when you compare it to Microsoft’s in July 2020. I mean come on, let’s be honest.
I believe that Sony will have a PlayStation Showcase that not only surpasses June 2020 but will be right up there with E3 2016 which I put as their best in the last decade.
I’m of the opinion that Sony hasn’t had a single good conference since this gen started but I’m aware I seem to be the minority
The 2020 one that people seem to hype up was completely carried by the last 10 minutes with Spiderman 2, Wolverine and GoW, 2 of which were CG and one was a logo ffs
All the other stuff like SoP’s have had less expectations but even they’ve been completely carried by Capcom/Square and third parties
I mean, come on. Think about it. Santa Monica’s Atreus expansion/standalone for GOWR, Tsushima 2, the Horizon MMO, Bend’s next game, Marvel’s Wolverine, possibly Housemarque’s next game, Asobi Studio next Astro game, the few live service games, third party games and if it’s June, add Lost Soul Aside, Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin to the showcase if they’re released before then. And this doesn’t include the next Uncharted game or Naughty Dog or what’s after Wolverine for Insomniac, etc.
Seriously, anyone who truly believes that Sony won’t have a great showcase until at least June 2028 to start off next generation is blind and delusional in my opinion. That’s not me being an asshole. That’s me being realistic. Because just like with PlayStation fanboys always saying Xbox has no games, people only see what they want to see as opposed to what the reality is.
As for Little Devil Inside, I have no idea. Should probably tweet the Indie dev behind the game if you really want info.
lost soul aside has been in development since before 2016. in that time dmcv, bayonetta 3, and hi-fi rush, and a bunch of highly rated character action games have come out despite starting development way later lol.
Okay. Were any of those games created by ONE PERSON in which Sony built a studio and small team around him? If not, this isn’t a fair or accurate comparison. It’s like comparing a two person Indie dev to a 500+ person AAA team. Not the same thing.
Hahahaha. You’ll wait for their GREATNESS!!! lol
June/September 2024 is my prediction and will be the showcase that people were expecting/wanting/hoping for this past May.
