One of my comments got flagged inappropriate when it was just a joke but it’s not console war fanboyism or any of that. There’s no harm in saying Sony has unlimited free passes in the gaming industry, they’re the de facto face of gaming CURRENTLY and that’s why they tend to do things their way. I don’t care either way but don’t be so sensitive
Sony tend to have a big showing at TGS which is home turf for them and obviously more important from a cultural standpoint. Gamescom is just too close to that, would be my guess.
I’d even argue that CL has a way bigger reach than Gamescom. I’m from Fiji and people watch the CL. It’s popular in South America as well. Matter of fact, most of my FIFA loyal friends just buy a PS
I don’t know for US, but in EU xbox (may be except UK) is completely invisible to the broader audience while Sony is almost everywhere. This is not new and was like that since a very long time (if not forever). Except some xmas ads, mostly in partnership with a 3P studio for a new game launch, you will never see an xbox logo anywhere.
i was following on twitter the marketing head of Xbox FR. it seems that their (cheap) strategy is to push on social media and influencers. For me this is a big mistake as my gut feeling is that Xbox demographics, at least in EU, is much older than other consoles, and is not really into those kind of information sources. It’s certainly even worse when you are launching a $$$ new high end console… but of course : this is very cheap marketing, and they might not have any other alternatives due to the poor business xbox is doing in EU which was always sonyland, even during the best X360 days, to the point that no one is talking about “playing on a console” but “playing on a playstation”.
Whatever they do, if they don’t invest heavily on visibility, they have 0 chance to take some significant marketshares to Sony in Eu. Even with the best games, even with the best console, even with the cheapest console or best ecosystem. You can have the best product, but if nobody ever hear about it, you will never sell it.
Yeah, I would agree with that. They also stated that they’ve shown too early in the past and following that, they slowed down their appearances at multiple events.
I agree with everything you said, here in the US they probably don’t need too much visibility because Xbox is already a household name here, after all the Xbox sales here aren’t too far behind the PS4s and in the rest of North America afaik the Xbox brand is strong, in europe Xbox is also very popular in the UK but who knows with their push of selling the ecosystem and not just consoles it’s possible that they may not care too much about console sales and will try to sell Xcloud and Gamepass subs instead, perhaps they gave up on outselling Sony in consoles and are instead competing in a way that may be hard for Sony to do the same, as long as I get the option to play on Xbox consoles I’m happy with that but it would be nice if MS was pushing the SX the same way Sony is pushing the PS5, with the XB1 gen MS gave up on europe and left it all for Sony, terrible thing to do when Sony was already dominant there even last gen.
Having XGS on PC is what will push the xbox brand in Europe, there’s a whole lot of Europeans on PC playing SoT and Grounded, Flight Sim etc who will become more aware of xbox through that.
It’ll be even better when the RPGs start to hit.
Bingo. Driving Game Pass subs and Steam sales for European PC gamers will increase the budget for XGS games. Especially genres that do well on Steam. (Everything besides Gears of War it seems…)
I’m suprised Gears never seemed to catch on on PC. Maybe preference for FPS games?
I guess showing something is different than being a supporting partner? I don’t know…
Who knows, but I can’t say that they aren’t there now. Maybe they are also a supporting partner now too depending on how it works?
Well I guess I were wrong then lol, excited to see more Ratchet. Not sure what the term means at this point tbh.
