Sony buying Bungie for $3.6 billion, Destiny 2 and future projects will remain multiplatform

Microsoft just wants to dominate gaming while Sony wants to dominate everything.

Is Sony the real monopoly

It’s probably like how Phil tricked Satya by talking all that Metaverse mess

It doesn’t even make sense outside of the TV argument which alone is a weak excuse for dropping almost $4 billion. How the heck does Bungie’s expertise (it remains to be seen if they can even make a competitive shooter anymore) translate to God of War or Horizon or, what, Spider-Man?

PlayStation experimented with Factions in TLOU and multiplayer in Ghost of Tsushima, but they’re weird and niche because those properties aren’t suited towards GaaS. Not that they can’t be fun, but you’re not grabbing market share with them. Bungie can’t wave a magic wand and turn them into multiplayer hits.

Say that PlayStation wants to bring back Socom or Killzone. Those games do not play anything like Destiny or Halo. The fuck is Bungie going to do, help you with your net code—do you not know how to implement multiplayer in 2022? I’ve seen people actually say this is so Bungie can help them with their net code.

The acquisition is off brand for PlayStation. It doesn’t make financial or strategical sense. There’s no exclusivity to leverage and Bungie probably has more autonomy than Mojang here. It’s maybe at bare minimum defensive posturing if they thought Xbox was going to grab them. Reactionary, desperate and in my opinion, will come back to bite them in the butt.

A total song and dance for their investors and users, even though neither really get anything out of this deal except for some hopium that Bungie’s next game is a decent hit. Remember, not even Activision wanted to fuck with Bungie. But everyone is telling me that this is about taking Destiny’s cringe live action to the mainstream like that is a sure thing in and of itself.

Tl;dr:

Fuck Bungie, yo. Not but seriously, this deal is so stupid and half-assed.

Damn . You spitting fax today wtf .

makes a lot of sense given the studio itself was founded by Pixar veterans and was originally making animation production.

Imagine a Sony Animation Kena feature film with the budget and talent and marketing of a Spiderverse :fire:

look like 2.4B for acquisition and 1.2B for employees to not leave

need one for Halo 4 Cortana

Aint no way Sony giving Kena Spiderverse Budget and talent.

Oh wow . Good shit .

yeah Kena ain’t Spiderman lol. I just meant it in spirit, as in scaling that IP and treating it with enough care to make it something big.

I wish I got 1.2 billion to not leave my previous job. :pensive:

True. Tho I hope treating it with care doesnt mean casting Tom Holland in it which is basically Sony’s strategy now a days :phil_lmao:

we should start game studio, maybe MS would throw us a billion :phil_lmao: :phil_lmao:

Tom Holland the new Sony princess. Kratos currently holds that of course. Aloy wished she had the right to that throne, but nah.

I’m wondering, did MS not do this with Rare back in the day when they got them?

Minecraft is like Lego, an evergreen. You can use it for kids stuff, education, merchandise and present it in your Super Bowl ad.

Destiny is nothing of this. Its also already on its second iteration.

That’s insane and just goes to show you that Sony really does not want to disturb the apple cart when it comes to Bungie.
