A few parts of the acquisition don’t make a massive amount of sense but I am guessing Sony will push Witch Queen and D2 Seasons heavily in their streaming service. Maybe its part of the launch push for it. Could be that the number of Game Pass users they were seeing was a selling point.
I speculate here, but it may be that Bungies experiences with Microsoft and Activision shaped this deal. They want the money and also their independence. Seems like they got it.
I mean yes, they have a tendency to lie about things but this seems a bit too definitive for that.
Incredible deal for Bungie it seems… Is Sony changing? This must create heart attacks over at Cultera… Look at those JIm Ryan quotes… PlayStation going beyond consoles hahahahahahaha
Jim Ryan stated in an interview with GameIndustry.biz that all bungie games will stay multiplatform and on other consoles “unequivocally” so that answers that.
Damn they might actually be serious about multiplat, it seems more and more likely this was a clause Bungie wanted and Sony kinda needed this so it made sense to them, this also probably means MS didn’t want that clause and that’s why the deal fell through.
"The first thing to say unequivocally is that Bungie will stay an independent, multiplatform studio and publisher. Pete [Parsons, CEO] and I have spoken about many things over recent months, and this was one of the first, and actually easiest and most straightforward, conclusions we reached together. Everybody wants the extremely large Destiny 2 community, whatever platform they’re on, to be able to continue to enjoy their Destiny 2 experiences. And that approach will apply to future Bungie releases. That is unequivocal.
"[Bungie] will operate autonomously within the Sony Interactive Entertainment organisation, and they will continue to publish on other platforms. We get the importance of this. We have grown studios organically, but we’ve also made a number of acquisitions over the years. Whether it is Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games, Suckerpunch Productions and most recently Insomniac. We understand how important it is to give these great organisations the space and independence, whilst bolstering that with great support when and where that’s needed.
I don’t even understand what you mean, I guess we’ll see next year if US would demand something substantial from MS or not. I guess not because Tencent and Sony keep giving MS strong arguments against any concern, even more so being american vs eastern corps.
Jim Ryan is way more progressive then people give him credit for lol, expanding beyond consoles was always his end goal. He just needed to ease the hard core PS fans into it.
That article isn’t loading for me. Got the direct quote for what he was asked and his reply by chance? There was some wiggle room in the other statement from Sony/Bungie earlier.
