Sony Acquisitions | OT | Organic Sellers Market

eh Square might still go for $10billion. Also I wouldn’t be shocked if there is competition for Square from the likes of Tencent and Netease.

Sony isn’t going to empty the coffers during a recession They aren’t a successful enough business for that. They’ll be saving their cash like everyone else.

Microsoft will make another 20b in pure profit this quarter though :joy:

I wonder if their profitability goes like SIE >>> Sony Pictures > Sony Music > Sony Hardware

Sonys revenue is driven like the below: 48493874-163393693977873

As Sony mentioned, their acquisition budget is to serve the whole company. Some of that budget is going to fire to their other segments to keep a semblance of balance for the company. Investments in financial services are particularly likely as that industry is under the most rapid change of any business they are in.

Please if they actually have an acquisition budget for a publisher let it be Square Enix

So far Sony’s money hats have affected me more than any of their acquisitions, I think this is generally the case to most Xbox fans. Bungie could’ve possibly been one that hurt Xbox fans but by all accounts they’re not gonna be making any exclusive games for PS so nothing was lost there except maybe their games never coming on Game Pass anymore.

I hope it continues that way. Money hats already fucking annoying.

We were all shocked to see Xbox acquire ActiBliz, I’d expect Sony to respond with something to that within reason so no EA or T2.

CDPR I think is most likely alongside SE (SE haven’t really got games I’m into so I’m no expert on them. As for Capcom, Konami, Sega, Ubi I think it’s more likely they’ll have a game be exclusive to PS and market it heavily.

They could acquire 4 or so smaller studios with promise too/alternatively.

I agree. I dont think anyone should expect Sony to spend 30 + billion dollars ever but I can see the range being between 4 - 7 billion.

I dont think a Japanese company is what they are looking for but an American / European company is. Cd projekt red is who I think is the most likely to be acquired next by Sony.

I don’t think so. The reason is actually simple - Sony bought bungie for 2b+ (with additional 1b+ for retention) and Bungie provides table recurring revenue for that price (one of those reasons why mobile gaming companies are so expensive).

We can argue that the potential loss of FPS titles on Sony played some role (minor at best), but the main reason what that recurring revenue. CDPR does not have any of it. For the price of Bungie they literally give nothing aside…a single game this gen :man_shrugging:

Nah I disagree. I called Sonys path forward being Bungie and the WB game studios a while ago. That’s still the most likely path.

Sony is looking to stay atop the industry. Buying 1 independent studio for 4 billion does not have the same effect that buying 12 studios for 4ish billion does. The latter strategy is less risk, produces more content for their subscription service, gives them an entry into the mobile space and provides more reliable recurring revenue.

Will it even matter? Will making Final Fantasy exclusive by purchasing Square make up for losing Call of Duty?

That’s not the reason why acquisitions happen though. For SE their main interest would be FF14 for GaaS revenue.

No acquisition can ever make up for COD. There only real chance is to hope that lightning can strike three times and Devation games could become there Respawn and give you a Titanfall/Apex level game.

I still think Sony will buy WB games. If they do buy a publisher I think either them or SE make the most logical sense because of sonys pre existing relationship with SE or the fact I think sony wants PS to be seen as the super hero game box and if they get would be fine with a licensing agreement with WB games (especially if they can get an exclusive licencing agreement for the next x amount of years). If I had to take a guess I would say Sony grabbing WB games is their move. Also might as well mention these 2, Arc Work Systems I could see Sony grabbing and CDPR I don’t think they are likely, I think they are still to expensive for Sony to really consider buying them (same with MS, I don’t think someone will want to spend billions on CDPR)

No it wouldn’t if we assume Microsoft made them exclusive (which I doubt they will). The only things which I think would make up for losing CoD is getting exclusive big name sports games like FIFA, MADDEN, NFL ect. Which probably wouldn’t happen because thise organisation probably wouldn’t let that happen and an acquisition/merger with Nintendo which for sony feels even less likely than the exclusive sports games (but it is the only thing that I think would 1 up the ABK deal)

Not every game. Just from those mainline FF studios.

As for se tokyo…its basically ff ip and few minor ones.

Id think if SE was selling it would be all or nothing

Nah they dont own all of those Ips like DQ and KH. I think thats why sony havent bothered to acquire them.

Square Enix does not own the Kingdom Hearts IP (Disney does) and the Dragon Quest IP is owned by Square but the trademark for the series, characters, etc is owned by a huge Nintendo supporter.

I mean WB’s studios are a good fit with Sony since its mostly superhero game studios, hell even neatherrealm and TT could be argued to fit this to one extent or another though stuff like injustic and the lego hero games and I think Sony wants PS to be the “hero box” so I think it is a really good fit personally. Escpecially if they can get an exclusive licensing agreement
