Sony Acquisitions | OT | Organic Sellers Market

its more like 30-50 billion but yeah

I think that’s a big underestimate. Fortnite for example is bigger on its own than Roblox. If Epic hit the public market they’d shoot up past 50 billion easy at IPO.

You have to remember that Firesprite and Haven was said to be big acquisitions by those same folks. So if those are big, then very big is a studio with 10-15 more developers than that.

I’m thinking “bigger” (smaller)! Sony’s next huge buys will be Sora ltd and Team Shanghai Alice!

I hear a bull’s sh*t can be pretty big

I am a major smash fan and their is a 0% chance of Nintendo buy Sora limit so imagine how small the chance of sony buying them is

Well there is one that isn’t “big” in terms of brand recognition, but would be “big” for Sony if they bought them. I’ll give you a hint, they make a knock off Overwatch clone

I can’t be arsed going back and checking but I’m pretty sure Grubb said that the name(s) being rumoured were public, which is why he wasn’t really buying into the talk in the first place.

I think there were rumblings about Square Enix but they had to come out and specify that they are not in the talks regarding acquisition.

yeah, they did, so talks would of began after that if they were happening because they couldn’t lie to shareholders

No one would know about talks with Square. That would be insider trading knowledge and anyone informing others would directly be liable for insider trading and could be prosecuted.

I think people could know about talks, probably not about an actual deal though.

Hopefully not. Will be bad for gaming.

how so? I don’t see sony messing up fromsoft and spikechun…lets just hope sony doesn’t click the censorship button

Um. I actually think Sony would close or sell off Spike Chunsoft. They’re not interested in niche anime games that are only popular in Japan. That’s why they closed Japan Studio and closed off their Asian division that used to help Japanese devs get their games published in other parts of Asia as well as assist with development (They helped Falcom out a lot and published really niche Compile Heart games to Asia… This division later closed after Sony went to California, but luckily all the people involved with it left Sony and formed Clouded Leopard Entertainment, and continue to do what they always did.)

(I highlight the date because as you can see they were formed after Sony’s California move which happened around 2018)

And everyone forgets about Kadokawa’s third gaming studio… Kadokawa Games. The vast majority of their games are fanservice stuff Sony hates, so that would absolutely have to be sold off or everyone would have to be laid off.

well that sucks but spikechun is much more niche, I would prefer they sell them off personally but it wouldn’t exactly hurt gaming if they closed them down…it would suck though, danganronpa is awesome (if they sold them off, I think the most likely to pick them up would probably be tencent, netease, microsoft a random big tech and embracer group)

I never heard of them but let the waifu fanservice live on

but being honest, the only one the wider gaming public cares about is fromsoft who would be unaffected, I could picture them selling off spikechun if they don’t want them as they are a big name, KADOKAWA gaming literally never heard off…I would imagine they would close them

Once again reminding you Sony is most likely buying start up “AAA” studios led by “industry” veterans working on GAAS.

But somebody knows what they’re talking about… they looked it up…

I would take what Greg Miller said seriously he’s not a rumor mill and even said on content later he really only posted because he was explaining why he was moving ps i love you xoxo to his audience and it this became a bigger story. I also think with most acquisitions its probably still in negotiations so anything can happen.

Look at what happened with Microsoft they had a deal to buy square enix years ago and at the last stage tehy were all ready to sign and tehy raised the asking price. Microsoft was setup to buy capcom and then Monster Hunter World blew up and the deal fell apart supposedly.

Anytime someone is speaking on an acquisition the talks are only in reality so far along. As if you look at the deals that actually happen we never know until they just come out. there was no insomniac is talks to sell stories we just got a story they were bought one day. same with Zenimax and ABK, and Bungie, and housemarque, etc. the list goes on.

So while i think there is merit in what Greg said. I also know the reality is until something is signed anything can fall apart at a moments notice.
