I got it but for Switch… I wanted the portability. The original was great
For anyone curious it seems to run very well on the windows store with devices like the ally
The mechanics of this game are kind if clunky, like essence fusion works like fusing a Persona. But it goes a step further by removing all our skills, forcing us to have to reequip all the ones we want.
Instead of just equipping the new one, while leaving the rest intact or just allowing us to replace one with a new one. I get it’s likely for customization options but as a new player, I lost several minutes messing around it and just felt dumb.
Then we have the whole if a demon dies and we revive them outside of battle. We then have to add them to our party again after we revive them, and it just feels like someone decided that qol is not needed for this game at all.
Other than that I’m mostly enjoying my time with the game.
Enjoying my time with the game so far, but I prefer Persona lol. It’s nice to break up the dungeon crawling with something else, but I’ve been walking around a dessert for like 6 hours so far in this game.
SMT is a series near and dear to my heart. V was one of the lesser entries I’d say but still pretty good! My biggest issues were the performance on Switch and the open areas being barren and generally uninteresting (which makes sense narratively but isn’t especially fun to play through). The story was also probably the weakest in the whole series.
I’ve heard the performance issues have been somewhat ironed out on the non-Switch ports, the story branch they added is said to have better writing and supposedly they added an area that’s interesting so that should be neat! I’ve heard it performs well on the Steam Deck so I’m looking forward to trying out the deluxe edition (after a nice sale - I did already beat it once after all)
I just want to say that - while you can and should complain about the way Atlus release more complete versions of their games after a few years - I appreciate the way it’s been done here. From what I’ve heard you can choose either the old branch which is totally unchanged aside from QoL improvements or the new one. It’s not on the same scale at all but I would love it if remakes that changed stories let you experience the original too.
It also inherited the SMT IV school of “NG+ lets you experience other paths” which I loved.
Sold my Switch copy and bought this! Atlus has successfully suckered me into buying their games twice yet again.
