Playing this I just dont get some of the complaints.
The story is quite engaging. I have found all the new characters really interesting additions.
The Combat is fucking mental. It feels so brutal, and measured. If you think it is scripted, I dare you to die. And see how the fight is different. Even the enemies approach with a different cadence, and will sometimes stop you fighting one character to fight another, themselves, instead. That’s so reactive. It is quite something. I think most who didn’t feel that didn’t play it more than once.
The perception puzzles a bit of a pain… But I’ve had a total of three so far. Three. In seven hours of gameplay.
Just finished this afternoon and man, what a game! Storytelling like no other. While Ninja Theory didn’t attempt to elevate the gameplay to crazy levels, what they did with the graphical fidelity, audio and interactive storytelling was all taken to another level, unmatched on current gen in my opinion. Scary freakin game too! Wonder if NT is making a horror game next as they could definitely give PT a run for it’s money!
I’m taking the game a little at a time, but I just finished the “Man in the Middle” sequence and that was awesome, super intense. And it’s still early on.
Finished it. I don’t think a New Game Plus mode has actually made me seriously consider a replay as much as this one. Wow.
Adored it. And unlike Starfield, where most of the complaints felt like looking for issues, with this I can subjectively understand why people wouldn’t like this.
I see the latest Defining Duke is out, with MrMatty, Lord Cognito and guest Gene Park. It’s well known that MrMatty and Gene Park didn’t like the game, but I don’t know what Lord Cognito’s thoughts about the game were.
How would you do a spoilercast discussing the game, with someone who disliked the game? Is that possible?
Pretty sure Lord Cognito liked the game. There’s a 2+ hour podcast with him and the rest of the Iron Lords discussing the game if you’re interested. Haven’t watched it though.
Why can’t they or anyone for that matter do a spoiler cast for a game they disliked? The spoilers is for the story and characters, ending, plot twists, etc. Not if someone liked or disliked the game.
Personally, I prefer a split discussion when it comes to spoiler casts because it makes it much more interesting because those on the spoiler cast would be able to discuss and counter what the others are saying. It makes for a far more interesting and entertaining spoiler cast. If everyone likes/dislikes the game being discussed, it’s a waste of time because you wouldn’t get any good debates and counter points to the game that’s being discussed.
But the feeling you get when the mirror pops and you go to town on some unspeakable bastard who’s been butchering people, it’s terrific. A moment of power fantasy amidst the grinding horror. It works.
And it’s fucking astonishing to look at. Not the deepest game by any stretch, but quite an experience.
It’s weird because I love the puzzles, much more than the first one, so I don’t get the reviews. I got to the part where you get these spheres you have to move around. It looks crazy with the atmosphere changing in an instant. Maybe it gets worse down the line, but I feel like it’s a game you have to digest like some art exhibition. It can be overwhelming even though everything feels minimalistic and kind of arid.
Im halfway done I think. I was thinking chapters 1-3 were relatively short, then it springs chapter 4 on you which just keeps going. I like it much more then Hellblade 1, although I miss the running kick in the combat. The puzzles are better, the graphics are much better and it has some really impressive production values, im very impressed by the instant loading of geometry and the seamless flow from one scene to another with no cuts. Playing Jedi Survivor there is a ton of pop in, but none at all in Hellblade 2, really good show from UE5. Will play more tomorrow.
Chapter 4-5 I think are the longest. 6 is barely a chapter though and goes by really quickly.
I don’t think I’ll go through NG+ though as I have all achievements done and too much on my plate right now, but it’s a worthy experience and more people should play it. I also think the way the game ends, without spoiling it, leaves it open to a bigger game in the future if Ninja Theory goes in that direction.
I just finished the start of the game in the beach and HOLY SHIT it was an amazing experience.
This is a technical marvel in terms of visuals, audio design and voice acting. Will continue more.
I will say, this game is not trying to be an action adventure game to have more in depth combat and its more about the visceral nature of the senuas journey.
