From what we’ve heard, the industry as a whole is concerned about RAM availability (as they should be) and what that is going to mean for mass-producing consoles at a competitive price point. Not only for the next generation, but it could also mean that yet more price increases for current generation consoles will hit us in 2026.
I’m fine with Series X staying current for a while.
We already know that Microsoft is planning something different than a typical console release. Last I read, wasn’t the rumor that Sony is planning on the “PS6” being a portable console that plays PS5 games in a lower fidelity mode?
If MS figures out how to build outside of China to at least match the price of the competition and extend the life of the Series consoles by a year or 2, maybe the PC pivot will prove to be a smart one in the end. PC gamers will more often than not be willing to pay more anyway, and Xbox branded PCs could be the product MS needs right now to bridge the gap between now and their own next-gen ‘‘console’’.
They’re already moving some Xbox manufacturing to Taiwan(4.3 million devices). Sony and Nintendo have already done so, but I don’t know to what extent.
I also think console being classify as toys puts bigger taxes/tariffs on them. So Xbox should aim for PC classification to help cut down on some of those taxes.
Yeah, that would be fucking sad, not gonna lie. Was looking forward to late 2027 being very plausible for next Xbox. All because of that damned AI craze.
I still expect Xbox to push on because from everything we have heard they are already targeting the next Xbox as a premium device and the Series X is way past the end stage of a product’s life style.
I can see Playstation delaying it because they they still want to produce a console that is somewhat mass marketable and they can ride the PS5 further all but I would expect sales to really dip.
I want my all in one Xbox/PC hybrid gaming console already. Was really hoping for Fall 2026 especially with the lineup that Microsoft will have in less than a year from now even though Fall 2027 was more realistic. I really don’t want to wait two years to be honest so having to wait even longer fucking sucks.
If this were to happen it would be an opportunity for Microsoft to gain back some ground in the console space but they’ll fumble it as usual, I still think Xbox should make their own separate handheld though, make it the lower end system, a handheld that can play all the major AAA franchises and has Game Pass could be a big hit.
With the move to Taiwan and making an Xbox PC instead of a console. I hope they’re able to reduce enough of the pricing to get it out on their schedule.
Dear lord. Screw this AI speculation market or hedge fund or whatever. That’s what frustrates me with all this. New useful tech is great, and “AI” (software tools that have been called AI) have been around for ages. The problem now is that is, well all of this. Like for God’s sake just stop. The bubble has the entire tech industry in a chokehold, and as of now we’re only really seeing negatives unless your one of the rich investors enjoying the gains based on “vibes”.
It’s just a rumor, but regardless of what happens with next gen release dates there will 100% be more price increases. I hate this. In theory, current gen consoles are incredibly powerful, but man I just wanna spend money on a new Xbox. Like genuinely. I’m only human. It’ll have been 7 years and it’s been five. The evolution Xbox has been discussing and which has been rumored sounds hype. I want one. I don’t want to be forced to wait because of LLMs causing RAM shortages.
