RUMOR: New details on the Assassin's Creed: Black Flag remake (modern day sequences removed, RPG elements added, less loadings)

The remake removes the modern day and replaces them with more content in Edward’s pirate era (a few extra hours compared to the original)

Gameplay will shift closer to the RPG-style of newer AC games

Loot and gear stats for Edward

Inventory systems and combat leaning toward the RPG style rather than the choreographed combat of the original

No loading screens when moving between ship and land

Map is not bigger, but islands will be filled with more activities and side content

Expected to include cut content from the original, like parts of Mary Read’s storyline that were dropped in 2013

It’s not on the same “big budget remake” level as Resident Evil 2 or Silent Hill 2, but more of a faithful reimagining with updates

Uses Ubisoft’s new Anvil Pipeline engine (same as AC Shadows)

Release window: currently targeted for early 2026 (likely March), though some sources think it could slip to late 2026.

They are reusing some assets from Skull & Bones to cut costs, but it won’t be obvious to players.

This all sounds pretty good to me. Black Flag is actually one of my least favorite entries in the series, all of that sailing isn’t really my thing. I could get behind the gameplay becoming more like the RPG games.

And although I do overall like the modern day story, Black Flag has probably the worst modern day segments in the whole series so they won’t be missed.

AC1 has the best modern day btw. Genuinely mysterious, foreboding, claustrophobic… It really added to vibe of the game.

Love Black Flag, it’s one of my favourite Ass. Creeds. Glad to hear they are reworking the combat though as when you go back to it after playing the latter games it’s all very clunky.

Hope they made the Sea shanties easier to grab though I got mighty sick of the same few I could be bothered to grab in my last play through.

So, it’s a demake, then.

Can’t say I’m not concerned here:

  1. what happened to the Prince of Persia Remake Ubisoft?
  2. As someone who prefers the new RPG gameplay, what’s the point of the remake if it’s gonna be like that? I know many gamers prefer the older gameplay style. Is this remake not for fans of the old game? If not then who is it for, and more to the point, why not just make a new game for those gamers?
  3. AC Black Flag is still available, still looks great, and has improved performance on modern hardware. I’m concerned with how this remake will end up with all the modern development issues and if it’d not just be better to leave it at unlocked frame rates and what not in a nest gen upgrade.

I absolutely loved Black Flag as it’s still my favorite and best AC game and what made me a fan of AC to begin with but all those changes, sound fucking awesome to me!!! Hoping it’s more structured like Origins/Odyssey as opposed to Valhalla/Shadows.

I don’t know why anyone would want Black Flag 2013 to be remade in the same way as the original when that would defeat the purpose of it being a remake to begin with. And more content? Hell yeah. No present day? Fuck yeah!!!

Hoping that all of this is true because oh man, this may end up being the first Ubisoft game that I actually buy since Far Cry 6 in October 2021 as I have played and completed the few games they’ve released since then via Ubisoft+.

Let’s go baby!!! :joy:
