Wow, that sounds pretty neat. It would be pretty cool if…you know….it could have been a surprise….
To be fair, Rand and Nick suggested an announcement at Tokyo Game Show on the XboxTwo poddy on the weekend, for a spring 2026 launch. (Cue’d to the discussion)
Fun Fact: Asuka used to write articles for Xbox Magazine, and did motion capture for Virtua Fighter. She’s been a hardcore gamer forever. Used to do a lot of game streams on her channel at one point.
It’s also about the car culture. Everyone has seen the decal covered cars, that makes ordinary cars into otaku chariots. There’s also dekotora, Japense truck culture, which needs to be in the game.
If there is also a PS5 version (and even better a Switch 2 version too) It has the potential to be the biggest launch for a racing game ever. Can’t wait to see the game, too bad the whole surprise was spoiled because this would’ve been a very strong announcement for Xbox at TGS…insiders will do their thing I guess, maybe Xbox should do something about all the leaks? I don’t know what is the better approach but they should definitely do something about it.
If Xbox pulls off a September 2025 announcement and a Spring 2026 launch then that’d be baller.
I think they’re trying too. Jez Cordern talked on the Xbox Two podcast not too long ago about how Microsoft is using different codenames now to try and pinpoint where leakers got their info from. It’s just hard when the company is as big as Microsoft is. Even Xbox alone is massive now. And there’s probably a less strict working culture at Microsoft in terms of being tight lipped. One of their mottos is about how they share their tech to enable others to create more with it. And T those big tech companies usually have a problem with leaks.
If the beginning of this track played during shots of Japan and then focusing on cars as they race as the music kicks in… I would lose it.
Yeah, you’re probably right. Not to defend the leak but I probably would have legit died of a heart attack if it was a complete surprise to me.
Then again, I would have died a happy man.
Obviously it could never happen due to licensing rights, but man, if the opening trailer starts with those first three notes of the Tokyo Drift main theme, I don’t think I could be happier.
Lots of Forza Horizon games have Fast & Furious tie-in DLC, references in achievement names, plus that entire FH2 spin-off game that they did. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if a FH set in Japan goes hard on Tokyo Drift tie-ins.
And I will be 1000% here for it if they do! I want every car from the movie. Not just obvious stuff like the Veilside RX-7. Give me Twinkie’s ridiculous Hulk-themed VW.
