Review | Death's Door

Remember, do not be greedy with your attacks - focus on dodging and attack when there is a clear chance. You can do it!

Also, look out for the shadows of the falling snowballs to know where and when to dodge.

Is this game as hard as a “normal” souls game?

I dont play greedy.

What gets me is in her Roll phase. If I fail a single dodge then I’m caught up in an unavoidable sequence that results in me losing 3 health pips. The first failed dodge is 1 pip lost as she rolls over me, it carries me with her into the edge of the arena where she slams/swipes for the 2nd pip lost, then she rolls over me for the 3rd pip lost. It always plays out that way for me. So because of 1 close mistake it extracts out 3 life.

Most of it is easy. It’s just some fights are difficult. The final two fights are very long. Even if I get past the fight I’m on now, I have no doubts I would not last long enough on the final fight to make it through all the phases.

Not even close.

Ok. Thanks.

If it helps, try to upgrade the skill related to base speed and dodge rolls.

Took down 2 of the 3 bosses. Game is MUCH better than I expected, even with high expectations going into it.

All skills are maxed.

the safest bet with the roll phase is to go away as far as possible, otherwise you won’t have enough time to dodge roll away from the subsequent ones hence get kinda stunlocked into that phase, which can be super annoying for sure. Whole goal is to create more distance hence give yourself more time to dodgeroll away when she’s heading your direction, and on the final roll move away and have two options - prepare the bomb for throw in the time she takes to recover, or right as you dodged away, move back to the position right around where she lands, and spam attacks while she recovers. Rinse and repeat.

This morning I beat Betty! Yay! It only took two attempts this morning, where the first was more of a wake up run.

What I found to work best for me, an entirely non-boss-fight style gamer, was to run around near the edge of the arena when Betty is in the Roll Phase. It doesn’t matter what direction as long as you keep moving in the same direction. This should place you at a safe distance always. When she’s done with the third roll I could strike for a couple hits. Then I’d return to distance for a few upgraded flame attacks. I only lost 1 pip of health this way. I don’t doubt that it’s possible to use this approach for a hitless victory.

My buddy who works at Devolver (even made it into the end game credits :sunglasses:) gifted the game to me. Wasn’t expecting much from the game at all, ended up absolutely loving it, so much so that I managed to 100% the game this morning.

Congrats! As the old boss fight adage goes, sometimes all it takes is a good night’s sleep to get back into the right form.

That’s exactly what happened to me with the Final Boss. Was about to toss my controller at the wall when trying to defeat him, took a step back and slept on it. Took another crack the next morning after a cup of coffee and bested him rather easily (thank goodness). But like you said, sometimes putting the controller down is the best thing a gamer can do.

Way to go @BRiT! Betty was by far the most trouble I had with the game. Made me seek out the deep crow shrines I had missed, and it still took me like 3 tries after that!

I assume there is no new game+ or anything like that in the game right?

Nothing like NewGame+, just some secrets to go for the True Ending. However most of that seems more exploration with puzzle solving and collection and less Boss Fights. I think there’s maybe 1 Boss Fight in that stretch.

I would consider the last Avarice a boss.
