Psychonauts 2 Lost Levels (UPDATE: New Video)

Series about scrapped levels from development.

You’re about to see the Psychonauts 2 that never was, with the best tour guides imaginable! Our host (and Lead Designer) Seth Marinello is joined by original members of the development team as they break out their Cobweb Dusters and load up old builds in this 8-part miniseries. They’ll explore the lost levels that got cut, remixed, and rebooted along the road to creating the game we all know and love today. It’s a must-watch for every aspiring Psychonaut (and maybe some future game devs, too).

I love these behind the scenes. And Psychonauts 2 is a masterpiece. It will never be said enough. Just thinking about it, I want to play it.

Watched it while maker supper, very interesting run through several beta builds and going through the evolution of the stage itself. Even though their documentary on the game already showed a lot, it’s super interesting to go in depth like this with more info as to why they did what they did and how they adapter the stage over the development of the game. Will be watching the rest for sure as it comes out!

I thought it was a surprise DLC when I saw the post…

I’ll take another documentary though I guess.

Sorry Mort. I’m also waiting on some kind of Director’s Cut with some new features like Ray Tracing.

Even a Switch 2 version would be cool, to play on the go.

Soon you’ll play it on the go, with an ROG Xbox Ally X! :stuck_out_tongue:

Watched the second episde, thanks for posting this! Really hoping we get some kind of documentary for each of their upcoming games. I actually don’t know why more studios aren’t doing this, I think in some cases it would probably help people understand the hurdles of game development as psychodyssey really showed us how complicated it was making a game like Psychonauts 2.

I’ll watch these laters.

Why was this cut? Because I recall Tim saying they were able to bring stuff back after Microsoft acquired them.

It’s cut because it wasn’t fully realized, badly designed or didn’t work as intended. It’s interesting to peak behind the curtain and see how these levels are created, sometimes through a lenghty and painful iterative process.

I wish more studios did these things, this is sooooo good! I’ve watched both their full blown documentaries as well twice and I just can’t get enough!

They’ve also published some interviews with devs playing other games and talking them through with creators (I watched the Lion King / Aladdin one and the Prince of Persia Sands of Time one), and some Massive Chalice stuff a while back as well. Really informative and interesting
