PS5 Teardown video released

I’m 95% sure the Series X SSD is not soldered to the motherboard

I don’t think the SSD is soldered into the XSX motherboard from those renderings. It appears to be inside of a little cage with a clip and what looks like a provision to be screwed down. It would make sense assuming the XSS has a similar setup/format but with a lower capacity drive. It would also line up with how MS talks about the external drive matching the performance of the internal drive if they followed the same format.

Now the PS5 having a soldered on SSD really isn’t a big deal. It might even change later when the faster drives in a standard format are available. It doesn’t even have to be a full revision like a slim model, they can just change it during an update (#1234A to #1234B) or whatever.

Especially if you consider later revisions with higher capacity.

Just put the 1TB leftover stock into the new 1TB Series S. I know you can also solder leftover nand chips, but it’s the design does not make sense for a soldered solution

No, I was wrong about that. Just learned the other day (means yesterday). I am glad that I was mistaken there

I think I see what you mean and you might have a point. Will be really interesting to see how it all works out.

Any issues with the Xbox dev environment wouldn’t really lead to John’s comment though.

My point is that breaking down my comment to debate over percentages in the single digits isn’t really worth it.

Oh ok. I don’t see what relevance any of this has to my posts though.

PS5 Fan Will Be Adjusted By Firmware Updates Sony’s Yasuhiro Ootori discusses plans to evaluate the PlayStation 5’s heat dispersion post-launch for a fan firmware update.

Oh… so post launch the PS5 can get significantly louder as fan speed increased to manage heat. Totally get how much testing and late binding decision these were,

why does this smell of the VW dieselgate?

I wonder if PS5 has some diagnostics that the system reports back to Sony HQ showing temps and fan speeds from real life users. If so I would imagine they would adjust them accordingly up or down. Once we get to see some real world hands on with noise and temps we can make a better guess at it.

Does that make the PS5 users monkeys?

I’M KIDDING PLEASE DON’T TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY IT IS A JOKE PS5 USERS AREN’T MONKEYS PLEASE DON’T HIT ME

I’m getting a ps5 day one, and I can tell you that this “news” probably makes sony the monkeys , not the paying customer

I hope both consoles launch trouble free! would hate for either to have issues.

It just seems that sony’s “jet engine” trademark is coming late to the party via a stability patch

That was probably the 3D audio Cerny mentionned as the “Tempest Engine” :valle:

Jokes aside, I’m baffled by how much Sony can get away with. I will have no mercy if my future PS5 is as loud as my PS4. They have to ensure it 100% it is dead silent.

Can’t wait for Valhalla and watch dogs framerate and resolution analysis.

Maybe Sony will include a firmware patch with every game :joy:

LOL, as long as the ps5 is quieter than the ps4 it will be praised as an engineering marvel by the media. I’m just waiting to see if vrs or mesh shading will ever be confirmed or de-confirmed.

Well I’m sure the DF videos will be amazing if it doesn’t have VRS or mesh shading. Then all the fanboys will say that DF is paid off by xbox or that those things don’t matter
