I understand your point but…It is from the official press release
“With the Xbox Series X | S, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will take full advantage of the enhanced graphics, giving players the opportunity to experience the open world of Norway and England down to the very last detail. On Xbox Series X, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will run at 60 FPS in full 4K resolution.”
I’m not saying the PS5 has anything. Not sure this has anything to do with hardware it’s about the overall designs and throughputs. I think the series X will perform better but we can’t ignore the talk from
Devs entirely.
I guess if I was in the PS5 camp I’d argue they’d shown loads of games running on the system yet very very little has been shown on the SX. It’s a fair point either way.
And none of it has been mind blowing. Spider-man looks like a PS4 game (and it turned out it was) with a graphical upgrade. Demon’s Souls is a PS3 game with a facelift, meaning the levels and systems were designed with the PS3 limitations in mind and won’t tax the system. Destruction and Godfall look like F2P games that could run on your smartphone.
Lol haha I understand your skepticism towards them but this time it is a new game on a new console perfectly capable of doing that. Now it’s totally up to them to tame the beast lol. We’ll see…
The talk from devs simply implies the ps5 dev kit is more mature because it’s based off the ps4 dev kit while the series x dev kit is completely new. And we have yet to hear any devs saying the series x performs worse than the ps5 in any respect when it comes to rendering.
It depends what devs you ask. I want to remind everyone how surprised Richard Leadbetter was in the interview with the Technical Director at Codemasters that downscaling to the Series S was a non-issue because it seems the devs they talked to said otherwise. It really depends if the dev have real access to the actual dev kits or not and what the position the dev has in the team. Most talk right now if still often based on gossip and not on actual experience with the new hardware.
But what they showed so far works against the argument.
Performance on ps5 is “bad” (as in significantly below the pc equivalent) across the board. It’s failing to reach performance targets that are possible on a 5700 (not a single game, even the simplest ones running at locked 4k60 at similar than ps4 settings) and that SX already basically achieved in BC mode that has none of the architecture gains nor the new features that significantly increase performance.
The fact that SX in bc mode is reaching a higher performance than ps5 in native ports is a bit mind gobbling imo, I expected a big gap but what we are seeing is beyond huge.
I don’t want to make any broad declarative statements because I’m generally ignorant about this sort of thing (in face most of the discussion about this is flying over my head). This sounds pretty exciting to me though!
Is it right that the new GDK lets devs target XBO/XS/PC? I’m sure that there are growing pains compared to the PS5 development process being (apparently?) similar to the PS4’s, but my hope is that this broad approach will incentivize more devs to bring games to Xbox/PC. Can any of you smart people tell me if that makes sense?
It just becomes funny how the PS5 gets all the benefits of the doubt and praise and literal cringe inducing fawning by industry media types like Geoff when we know full and well that if the roles were reversed Xbox would be eviscerated for it. Can you imagine the headlines and mocking if Xbox produced a console with the following aspects
Weaker console than the direct competition
The same price as the competition even though it was weaker
Ridiculous silence about important aspects of the console like GUI, BC, what new features does it have?
Largest console EVER made, the meme’s would be off the charts and concern articles would be rampant
Losing access to Bethesda/Zenimax games, this would be hailed as a death blow to Xbox
Flip flop on the “we believe in next gen” while pumping out PS4 ports of next gen games
REQUIRING users to take apart the PS5 to add next gen storage
No day one solution for expanding storage, Sony has not released which drives will actually work
If the roles were reversed and Xbox pulled any and or all of this crap it would be viewed as a “2013” 2.0 PR disaster and Phil would be urged to quit.
Sony ALWAYS gets a pass for things Xbox would be killed for in the gaming fan community and the gaming Media.
I also find it RIDICULOUS that Sony has a host of supposed neutral Gaming entities/Media personalities that always SWOOP in to try and do damage control for Sony like they are a hired PR firm for Sony. WTF is with that? Why does Sony get to have an entire Gaming industry just trying to sweep up and Damage control Sony’s mistakes?
The media coverage has definitely not been equitable. Best to ignore it, in my view. I’m not interested in the opinions of personalities or game journalists. Just the facts for me, thanks!
It’s True, mostly that’s due the long relationship between Sony & Media in terms of business or biases. Hate to say that but it’s part of the big picture.
Wonder if Sony left the competition, who is the lucky one to win media’s support? “or their bias?”
