I’ve already cancelled, and my last day is Tuesday the 7th, but my reasoning is because I’m planning on saving up for the next Xbox and that also Includes all game purchases until next gen.
Once I have the next Xbox, I plan on getting Game Pass to catch up on games I won’t be playing, I just hope the macro-economic issues(tariffs) don’t cause Microsoft to raise it to 40 by then.
To clarify my subscription doesn’t renew monthly and is currently stacked until March 2027. Honestly nothing changes for me. I’ll keep looking for GPU 3 month cards on sale (or the fabled 12 month) and add to the stack when it’s cheap to do so. And I’ll ask for it as gifts from people who don’t know what to get me on holidays. I actually feel the price change, so even though I’m disappointed in the “additions” there’s no reason for me to change anything.
I voted for the ‘Lowering my Game Pass subscription’ option since I will be dropping to the PC Game Pass tier once my subscription expires. PC Game Pass still has Day 1 games, just without the cloud streaming/console, so I wouldn’t say it is a full downgrade.
However, I am currently locked in until November 2026 so I don’t have to make that move yet. In the interim, what I likely will do is hunt for cheap codes and stack Game Pass Ultimate if I can do it for under $25 CAD. If I can’t, then I will make the switch.
With that said, I am definitely changing my spending habits on Xbox. Going forward, I am prioritizing my game purchases as follows:
Game Pass for Day 1
Buy third party Xbox Play Anywhere titles on Xbox/MS Store
Buy the remaining third party games on Steam, GOG, Epic, etc.
This way, I have a path forward if I do not like the direction Xbox ends up taking with next gen. If the rumored Xbox/PC hybrid is true, I can still jump back in and likely will. An Xbox that allows me to merge my existing Xbox library with my Steam/GOG/Epic library would be very appealing. If it’s still a traditional console or they do some shady crap like not allowing me to use the PC Game Pass tier on the Xbox hardware, I will just stay on PC.
I will have to drop down to premium i cant justify the price here (Aus).
Im sitting back and taking stock, it sucks because my affinity with the brand is gamepass and its just been so great over the years.
Not only am I keeping my Game Pass Ultimate subscription which was already paid for to mid-July 2027, I added a year to the subscription the other day so im set until mid-July 2028.
The amount of money that im saving by not having to buy Microsoft’s published games, third party games that I want to play like Expedition 33 as well as being able to try out games like Atomfall, Sniper Elite Resistance and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black this year without having to buy them which would have ended in a monetary loss for me since I dropped them a few hours in is simply worth the price and even if/when I have to pay $30 a month, as long as Microsoft is publishing games that I want to play year in and year out, the decision to stay subscribed is an easy one.
I’m not into Fortnite and would have loved the price to go down especially now that it’s become a national thing with politicians, government heads, musicians and practically every one talking about it.
I did take to stay with ultimate I have it stacked till 27 ending and am thinking of getting more cards till 2030.
There should be another option called Sub when required.
I will cancel it but will sub when I need to. Before at its price it was okay for me to sub even when I didn’t play for few months. Now I will plan when to sub to play the games I want to play
With all these changes xbox should just go back to traditional strategy and of hardware and software sales
I cancelled mine cause i just outright refuse to pay well over 120 reais a month for a subscription service. My country is already economicaly in turmoil right now and this is bad enough. I will get a subscription once the price becomes more reasonable in my country later down the line.
I have 6 month left on my Ultimate subscription paid by Rewards points. After that we will see, probably month to month if there is a deal or i have enough Rewards balance. I will not downgrade to a lesser tier or pay 27€ a month, no way.
My Ultimate Gamepass subscription ends August 2027. I’m not sure if I will renew. By then we should have a better picture of Xbox’s next generation open ecosystem plans. I have this past year been playing more on Steam & PlayStation but I just gotta wait and see. I’m a free agent gamer and Microsoft isn’t owed my money.
My Ultimate is paid until mid 2026. But I’ll probably downgrade to the middle tier after that. I rarely play games on release anyway (I’d rather wait until they’re patched) and I have no interest or need for the Fortnite thing.
I find it a bit odd that the majority of people seem to be either all or nothing. But to each their own.
Still keeping it as I play more than enough games where I still save a substantial amount of money.
Just this month alone 3 games are launching day and date which I want to play and if I were to buy them right away that is £180 right there.
No one likes anything going up in price, but I feel people who call Game Pass a bad deal now are a little over the top. It has gone from a no brainer to a more honest question as to how many games you do play though.
I’m still not sure what to do when mine runs out. I’m really only interested in day one games I would have actually bought day one, those are not many. This year that would have been Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 from Game Pass.
This past month I’ve not played a single Game Pass-game… I own half the library, I don’t play on PC nor cloud.
State of released games nowadays also has me leaning away from day one. Most games takes months to be patched up, and keep adding missing features up to a year or more after release. Makes it kind of weird to jump on games at release; more expensive and worse quality.
All the backlogging I do really has made me appreciate playing fully patched, feature packed and content complete games. I can buy a lot of those on sale for the GP-money, question is where… I’m feeling less than hot on Xbox right now.
I still have to pay the stupid online tax, so I guess a downgrade rather than a cancellation.
Day one games and the overall back catalogue still makes the price worth it, but it’s starting to stretch things for me. Still, these days I got kids who play the Xbox and benefit from these games a lot so it’s worth a lot more to me than it used to be.
I know some might disagree in my opinion, but i really think they should allow for indie or third party games that are day one on game pass to be available on premium tier and latter added to essential depending on the game as i think this would be a far better pill to shallow.
But hey, this is an opinion of mine and i don’t have any idea as do how things work in this area.
