POLL: Avowed OR The Outer Worlds 2 ? Obsidian VS Obsidian! Battle of the Western 2025 RPGs!

I stole the idea from the Resetera Official Xbox Game Studios + Bethesda + ABK thread but it is an important question.

What was your favourite Obsidian RPG last year: the mystical, philosophical and colourful High-Fantasy RPG Avowed or the Steam-Punk-esque Sci-fi RPG sequel The Outer Worlds 2 ?

I still haven’t finish any of them yet, but I think for me it’s Avowed that take the crown.

The Outer Worlds 2 didn’t blew me as much as I thought it would be. Characters are not as interesting as the first one and the story is not doing it for me. Gameplay, environment and the multiple ways you can do stuff is cool though.

Avowed is doing some cool stuff story wise and the characters are more developped than The Outer Worlds 2. I feel like the setting and story are way more interesting and the combat and exploration feel great.

I still have to finish both of them and maybe play them more in the years to come, but I feel like Avowed was riskier and way more ambitious, bringing a new perspective to an established setting.

The Outer Worlds 2 for me, I loved Avowed the combat is incredible, but TOW2 has so much more that we can do. I feel that was a sympton of Avowed starting out as a MP game and overscope.

Which made TOW2 an over all better experience for me, that it’s my game of the year.

I tried The Outer Worlds 2, quickly tired of it. Meanwhile I ADORED and fully completed Avowed and will likely play through it again. So Avowed is the easy winner for me

This!

I loved both, and put 100+hours into each, but TOW2 takes the crown.

Ooo 50/50 exactly. I haven’t finished Avowed yet, but I haven’t started the Outer Worlds 2 yet. The world of Avowed has enthralled me and I’m in love with the characters and just doing side quests and seeing dialogue options. In fact I’m stuck on the game because I keep reloading to see every possible dialogue choice and outcome in any given interaction. The combat is also fun without me feeling over or under powered and I like chilling with the companions.

I completed Avowed 100% and loved it. Played The Outer Worlds 2 back at launch but only for a few days as I was going back and forth between normal and hard difficulty as the balancing seems off on both to me. Will start fresh this summer so can’t say yet but can say that The Outer Worlds 2 has a high bar to beat because I really enjoyed Avowed as the first person melee combat is in my top 3 of all time as I was never expecting the game to be as fluid and responsive as it was. With TOW 2, I was and will be playing it as a first person shooter but the shooting did feel good so it’s going to be one hell of a match up when I do finally get to it and complete it. On a related note, I really hope that we get an Avowed 2!!

Avowed wins the outcome for me. The combat in that game is so smooth and easy to use.

I went with TOW2. Gameplay wise, I still think I’d give the edge to Avowed as I did really enjoyed how you mixed and match whatever you wanted and could make stupidly crazy builds and I thought that was a lot of fun. Graphically I think both looked great on my OLED so to me it’s a toss up. And I had a lot of fun finishing both campaigns.

But ultimately for me, the scifi vibe of TOW2 felt more fun to play in than the one in Avowed and while I was a bit lost in both cases when it came to following exactly what was happening with the story, I enjoyed the story of TOW2 more and that’s what wins it over for me. But not by much I’ll admit!
