[PLEASE READ STAFF POST] Microsoft says they have committed to Sony that they will keep Call of Duty and other titles on Playstation "beyond the existing agreement and into the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love."

I’m in the camp of ditching Xbox if Game Pass in a native form heads to other consoles, and I consider myself a diehard fan. I don’t think Prog is being totally unreasonable. Content is king.

The same way we champion Game Pass for its value, we’d have to do the same for PlayStation with said service. I don’t think we’ll get to that point, though.

You can’t bold native and also say Prog isn’t being unreasonable :stuck_out_tongue:

It is unreasonable because whatever reasoning your applying lacks logic.

With a streaming service, you can play Xbox games with $0 investment. If you are fine with streaming then don’t buy an Xbox? If you aren’t the you have to buy hardware.

Maybe you’ll even be able to stream Playstation 5 games!

It’s simply Xbox specific FUD. when even the Market leader in console is acquiring a studio to remain multi-platform with its IPs but only blame Xbox to be disloyal to there fans for keeping one of the biggest IPs multi-platform

The market is changing… Embrace it.

I hate the future where people have the option of owning local hardware or streaming games. Imagine all of the choices

I’m sure of two things

  • MS want their service everywhere including PS and Nintendo

  • and they want it to be on their own terms

The 1st isn’t a hard choice in hindsight. On more paltforms = more revenue.

The 2nd is extremely complicated, putting the service on other platforms has implications to MS themselves and other platform holders. I think this is still something they research internally and aren’t near figuring out.

Last I knew… It was all about games

Theoretically speaking, even in the worst case scenario games are running on PS via streaming and no one buys xbox console console anymore. Well Xbox is still winning because people are still playing there games. Xboxes will still be made because game have to rendered on something. Cloud is xbox console itself.

This notion of xbox only becoming third party publisher is ridiculous

That been said, there are still many reasons to buy Xbox console even then. If someone wants switch, be it. Do it yourself first and then complain. And even after that, your still playing xbox games.

You know what forget I said anything.

I guess everyone’s moved on past this conversation in the past week.

I just tried to more eloquently lay out what I way trying to say last week that I caught a ban for.

Just forget it.

This is something not addressed in the blog post

This is why I am saying don’t make any conclusions based on that blog post

Nobody knows under what terms MS wants to support PS and Nintendo beyond the current agreements

There are people that will engage you in a discussion of whether the games will be exclusive or not. But…

Game Pass on other consoles is an old argument that is going to go down the same path it always does.

Whatever we’ve moved on.

Forget it. It’s over and done with.

Maybe I’ll make a topic with XboxMusicEra on what songs we’d like to see on a new Tony Hawk game.

I think Xbox hardware will be around for ages. Blu-ray and DVD players are still made even though streaming took over years ago.

In the end, convenience will win out. It always does, but Xbox has a pretty smart setup using Xbox console hardware for their streaming service so they could always have an option for the hardcore that want a native experience.

But they literally only said they will keep then available in the future. They literally stated anothing about all future releases being multiplatform at all.

But I agree with a point that we literally know nothing at this time. So the reaction was crazy.

It does not make sense for them doing that because it creates a huge fragmentation. Like “why our Playstation Game Pass is different Xbox Game Pass” and so on.

That fragmentation is already there, with PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass having different games.

And when the widely assumed streaming only plan comes, it will also have different games, just like there’s different games available to standard Game Pass vs ultimate Game Pass.

I don’t see Game Pass coming on Playstation (literally does not make sense to pay 30% cut if you can provideTV app or cheap dongle with the same streaming solution) until the gaming platforms change to pure streaming solutions with exclusive content only. But it will take some time until then - after all current Game Pass relies on third parties still. But when it becomes first party only…Then we are talking.

It is kinda funny that even now streaming services have issues when the content switches from one streaming service to another. And keep in mind that movie streaming does not have “indies” or that amount of third party content providers at all like gaming.

Exactly, the amount of devices thay can do streaming (phone, tablet, laptop, desktoo, smart tv, streaming sticks) renders streaming to PS5 and Switch quite redundant imo as there are gar more of those devices than there are gaming consoles anyway amd its not hard to get your hands on a game controller.

I highly doubt there will be content being shared that much between the gaming ecosystems and PC is anlther beast entirely. Only special situations like Minecraft or COD as toouch and you might start losing too much on hardware sales, including accessories, as well as on your share of game sales in your ecosystem. I dont think the math adds up. Game pass is not the end game, its the trojan horse to their ecosystem imo.

The biggest stumbling block for Game Pass on PlayStation is integrating it with Game Pass Ultimate. Making a PS centric Game Pass is not difficult. They already have one for Xbox and PC as you stated. However, Microsoft will also want to bundle everything under Game Pass Ultimate, which I can’t see Sony willing to do.

Like if I’m a PC gamer who buys Game Pass Ultimate directly from MS on PC, but plays COD on PS5, Microsoft gets everything in that scenario, except the 30% cut of whatever I spend inside of COD. I can’t see Sony allowing that.

I think in a perfect world Microsoft envisions offering Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, Mobile Game Pass, PS Game Pass and Nintendo Game Pass as both separate services and as an Ultimate tiered bundle via Game Pass Ultimate. The issue is Sony, Nintendo, Apple and Google stand in the way. Microsoft’s recent blog post was meant to start that discussion.

Good points. If Microsoft wants it enough, and Sony is willing to at least come to the table, it’s not impossible for them to come to some kind of agreement. For example, a profit sharing based on titles played, or time played, or both. If people play PS-specific titles, Sony gets a bigger cut than if they play PC titles. With a sliding scale based on percentage of playtime.

That’s just me spitballing, I’ve no idea how feasible something like that would be. Point is, I can’t see it being completely out of the realm of possibility to reach some kind of agreement, providing both parties are at least somewhat interested in making it work. Which is far from even a suspicion at this point.

Agreed 100%. It’ll be real interesting to see where we go from here.

I dont like the idea of gamepass being on nintendo or sony systems. It goes back to at that point xbox is just a third party that makes a console at that point. I get it they want to hit a lot fo gamers and all that I just dont like it
