[PLEASE READ STAFF POST] Microsoft says they have committed to Sony that they will keep Call of Duty and other titles on Playstation "beyond the existing agreement and into the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love."

If they plan to drop Gold eventually they will have to find a replacement for that as the current GPU (if it were without GOLD) is the same PC Game Pass (unless you are not XCloud)

Yes, they need to figure out more interesting tiers I think. I want things like DLC and good perks.

The thing with adding more to Ultimate is they likely feel the numbers already provide enough of a benefit. It’s a merger of Gold ($10 Monthly) + Console GamePass ($10 Monthly) which is above the GPU price ($15 monthly). Then you add in the entire PC GamePass ($10 Monthly) . Then the icing on the cake is adding in EA Play on top, which is a $5 monthly. So from their viewpoint they’re providing $10 + $10 + $10 + $5 ($35) for $15. I’m surprised they sprinkle in the additional perks that they do.

Now that’s not my view on it, but it’s how I believe they view the existing value proposition.

Toss in Ubi and charge me $20 lol

I am pretty sure that DLC won’t happen. It is the main driver of profit for Game Pass. People engage into games more, they buy DLC. Getting DLC in GPU will kill that model as people will just subscribe to free games with all DLCs.

Yeah but even free DLC for (redacted) was barely played. Is DLC that big of a money maker?

They’re already giving up 10% on initial purchases which rises to 20% after X days (60?) which includes DLC prices I believe.

Right but there’s going to be people between Bobby Kotick and these companies on the management structure, it’s not just Mike Ybarra reporting to Kotick. They get rid of Kotick, there’s still gonna be a structure for running things under whoever replaces him - some of which will likely get overhauled because that place is a mess but either way will still leave a management team for Activision/Blizzard/King that runs by Phil Spencer’s mandates. Anyway, who knows, maybe Blizzard are better off being moved to a separate part of the company I just don’t personally think it makes much difference - but I’m gonna leave this here cause we’re starting to clog the thread up a bit.

If we look at current tiers without GOLD it will look like this

  • Game Pass Ultimate (Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, XCloud EA Play) - 15$
  • Game Pass PC (PC Game Pass, EA Play) - 10$
  • Game Pass Xbox - 10$

I think they should move EA Play to basic Game Pass tier and make it the same as Game Pass PC at least.

Same argument for the actual games though, no? I think money is in subs and MTX, not games and DLC.

I mean we don’t need to go far a way - people spend 2k $ on FIFA Ultimate Team, but nobody would buy FIFA for 2k$. It is also why F2P generates enormous amount of revenue.

DLC is kinda old era MTX. In the past they sold you parts of the game, now they sell you pieces of the game via MTX even if the expansions are free.

See my edit.

I think when people talk DLC they are talking expansions (like Hivebusters and the Outer Worlds ones)

Yes.

I am pretty sure that old school DLCs are going away. We are seeing them less and less. For now we get something like packs or whatever. But regular DLCs is a rare case right now.

Oh no absolutely, MS was clear as they can be in regards to COD and some other games still being multiplat. I just thin that xbox fans should wait Phil’s statements if they want to know what is going to be exclusive and what remains multiplat.

I don’t think that’s the case. They at least seem common in WRPG and Open World games.

FH is pretty consistent with expansions too.

Nah, I think proper DLC still has it’s place. It’s cheaper and faster to make than sequels, and keeps the game relevant longer even if it’s a singleplayer game.

Finally something we can agree on!

Traditional DLC’s are a relatively quick and easy way to monetize singleplayer content, and I’m expecting to see more DLC as a way to increase profitability of costly single player titles by both Sony and Microsoft.
