Playstation is making a new subscription service, codenamed Spartacus, merging PS PLUS and NOW. First Party Games not expected to be Day One

Do you guys remember in the 2000’s when every new FPS was labeled as a “Halo Killer”? This news has that energy. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Actual good Sony BC would be amazing. This is going to be the same old streaming (and paying again for games you already own) so…

I thought people didn’t buy a next gen console to play old games though :stuck_out_tongue: but yeah BC is cool and always has been I don’t know why people talked shit about it, though I don’t really like if it’s locked behind a sub.

Haze and Killzone come to mind. I remember a game with a trailer that had a critic saying “Goodbye Halo.” I forgot what game was it but that made me laugh hard.

I’d sub to this if it had day one new games.

Although honestly if the library is substantial enough and native, I’d consider subbing for the old games.

Remember the last time Sony did BC with Playstation Classic? They obviously trying to copy Nintendo Online Expansion with this, same quality.

NateTheDrake apparently said it’ll have 100+ PS1 classics. Way better than NSO expansion pass already.

A service that doesn’t have a ready supply or brand new games is basically no use to anyone.

I’ve actually been a long time defender of PS Now. It’s definitely not at the level of Gamepass, but it’s a good service for the price.

I wonder if this was the reason why the tried to shut down the PS3 and PS Vita store. Removing access to the store and putting them exclusively in PS Now. Could attract a lot of customers.

This service will never have day-one games because sony needs to sell those games, they don’t have a trillion dollar parent to soak those initial costs.

I believe they’ll try to launch recent blockbusters that reach a certain milestone in sales though.

PS Now isn’t that bad if you sub to it for 1 month a year or every 6 months to catch up on games you missed, but its not a full year around service. It’s like augmenting your standard Disney+/Netflix subscription with 1 month of Epix/Starz/Showtime for $1 when on special.

"PlayStation Plans New Service to Take On Xbox Game Pass"

That’s one hell of a clickbait article title from Schreier. Especially when the actual article points out that there won’t be day one games. You know, the one thing needed to actually “Take on” and compete with Game Pass.

Is Microsoft ever gonna bring back the option to buy 12 months of gold on the Xbox console itself? They don’t even have an option to buy 1 year of gamepass from what i can see. I’m never gonna pay monthly for a xbox service so I’d much rather just buy a year straight out.

There is some context to both Nintendo and Sony branding this as a new service. I’ve bought a huge number of classic games on the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Wii U, and Playstation 3. I’ve had to repurchase almost 10 Wii U games for my Switch. I have over a hundred PS1 games that I bought for PS3/Vita that are technically in my PSN account but are never going to be recognized by Sony. No way in hell will I ever be happy to rebuy those games. Xbox makes it obvious that Nintendo and Sony are not ecosystems that you should trust. Heck even PS6 isnt guaranteed to be backwards compatible, whereas the next generation of Xbox will 100% be compatible. Steam knows its customers want to bring thier library forward. Xbox knows its customers want to bring thier library forward. Nintendo and Sony are clueless.

because of this news now sony fanboys are saying that halo infinite MP is F2P because of gamepass, because if it was in gamepass it wouldn’t be sustainable lol.

if anything, the right move for microsoft would be to put halo infinite MP EXCLUSIVE for game pass subscribers, it would not sell the game but be part of gamepass ultimate, number of game pass subscribers would go through the roof

I can’t help but think Sony was more of following Nintendo and their success, but now they’re chasing after Xbox to make sure they have no chance in hell to survive in the business. They almost did so with E3 2013 but around last year with Bethesda purchase, they should realize they awoken a sleeping giant.

Competition is good for gamers, and news like this just means that Phil Spencer may get even more dollars to buy content for Game Pass

Think he said it was aiming to eventually have 100’s of PS1 games, but not at launch. Others saying PS2 and other stuff will be post lunch.

Indeed. This is going to be a victorious Xbox generation when it comes to big game releases. Sony will not be able to keep pace. Facts versus denial at this point.
