As you said to each their own plus it depends on the genre IMO…games with a bigger emphasis on the gameplay mechanics (character action, immersive sim, puzzles, older arcade games e.t.c.) can get away with a more anemic or a not that interesting story. A lot of amazing/classic games do not have great stories and/or writing, in fact I’d say that not a lot of videogames actually have interesting and well written stories and that is OK since the strength and the differentiating factor of the medium is interactivity.

I feel like if you put that much emphasis on story then you likely had a rough time with gaming pre-360/PS3 era. Outside of RPGs, story existed primarily as a justification for shooting and/or beating things up. I don’t think it was until the newer generations of more cinametic games that story telling was emphasized (likely due to cost and storage/technology constraints).

I read the TLDR on GAF of this and it does sound good.

Nice that it has features like Mesh Shaders and VRS that weren’t getting much use on Xbox Series. Hopefully it ramps up their adoption.

True that! This year we’re four years in, it’s taking quite a while.

Yep that was my first thought when I read that and better DX12U support.

Sucks that the Series consoles had so much extra tech on board but barely any third parties (or even first parties if we’re being honest) bothered supporting them…

Sounds like we’ll especially be seeing significant visual improvements in games, right? Not so much performance?

Aiming more towards clarity.

Better ray-tracing performance and higher resolutions. Similar overall looks just cleaner with better lighting most likely.

Such things can make a real nice noticeable difference. I expect studios such as Rockstar, but probably CDPR too to take advantage of that. Likely more studios. The dev making Wukong etc.

Although I absolutely expect the next Xbox to be out around the time a new CDPR game drops.

The main issue I had with the dock - about it not wanting to output after being put to sleep - has completely gone away recently. I’m not sure if they pushed out a patch in the three months since that big post I made or if something else changed but it works like a charm now on both my JSAUX and official Valve docks.

It’s nice because if I’m playing my TV with my regular Xbox controller (double-tapping the sync button to switch devices from console to Deck) and my husband needs the TV, I can grab it to play on my lap or I can go to my desk and use the dock there to play it on my monitor with mouse and keyboard (or my sort-of-busted Elite 2 controller).

The positives of the Deck have only increased since, as well. I’ve gotten a bunch of games that were on my radar cheaper than on Xbox and some that were just plain unavailable. I played the Hades II technical test exclusively on my Deck and it worked like a charm. I went on a few trips and the deck held up great!

This headline…

I had a quick look at the writers other opinions which included the Fallout TV show having mediocre writing and pacing issues .

Be glad you haven’t.

It’s one of those tech and lifestyle magazines in the UK that pretends it’s classy like GQ but in reality is as trashy as a lads mag and panders to “mainstream blokes” which given many would be casual gamers buying PlayStations for FIFA means being very anti-Xbox.

On the plus side, that article just lost their publisher money - I did a cheap trial of PC Gamer and Edge and forgot to cancel it (particularly given Edge definitely dislikes Xbox) but that reminded me to…

Presumably this will be LEGO Horizon Zero as they already have LEGO sets.

I was wondering if maybe a LEGO Fortnite Horizon mode, since the original LEGO Fortnite seemed poplar with gamers.

Every company is becoming more and more stupid by the day. It’s fascinating since you would think that at some point, the stupidity would stop but nope.

Sony should just make PSN optional for the regions that it’s available in and for the regions it’s not, just sell the game on Steam/Epic and call it a day.

As for that rumored Horizon Lego game, I hope that’s not the long ass rumored Horizon MMORPG that looked liked Immortals Fenyx Rising in concept art and whatnot.

I just hope it is not a big part of their Showcase/State of Play. If that show is anything less than amazing I’ll be extremely disappointed given how much they have yet to announce.
