PlayStation 5 |OT| This SSD has no limits

In all honestly, Microsoft should have outbid Sony for the KOTOR Remake for the simple fact that it was an Xbox original exclusive. Plus, having a Star Wars game be exclusive for a year or longer would have also been huge in general because it’s going to bring in a lot of casual fans in addition to the hardcore KOTOR and/or Star Wars fans.

But it is what it is.

What if the game is bad though ? And personally, I don’t want Xbox to waste money on timed exclusives. It benefits nobody.

I agree with the timed exclusivity but only to an extent because if the game is popular, it’s going to get consumers into your eco-system and if we’re talking Xbox, into Game Pass. And if the game is good on top of that, oh man, it’s a smart business decision.

For example, let’s say that Sony DID get Starfield as a PS5 timed exclusive but forget one year, maybe it’s two (like Forspoken, smh) or longer. Are those here who are hyped for it going to wait multiple years to play it and what if like FF7R, the deal somehow gets extended via an option clause or some shit?

As for KOTOR Remake, we’ll have to wait and see but either way, I still believe that Microsoft should have gotten the game no matter what because it is part of the original Xbox’s history and one of the greatest RPG’s and games in general ever released so that’s why should have made sure to get it.

Sure, there’s always a chance it backfires but doesn’t matter, I would much rather see Microsoft (and Sony for that matter) be very aggressive, go out and get what they want as opposed to not getting it at all.

Microsoft does spend money on timed exclusives like Stalker 2 and many others but to be perfectly honest, outside of Stalker 2, I don’t think any of them benefit Xbox to the point that it will get people into the eco-system and in turn, Game Pass.

Take FF16 for example, for Sony, I think paying for that game was stupid because 90% of people are playing it on PlayStation anyway but if Microsoft would have snagged it for a year or longer, I can guarantee that would bring in millions of people into the Xbox eco-system and possibly, into Game Pass because FF16 is the biggest and most popular JRPG out there if not RPG in general.

Now, do I prefer to see Microsoft go after games to be timed exclusive for whatever amount of time over day one on Game Pass? No. I prefer day one on Game Pass if I had to choose but if Microsoft is going to go after some timed exclusives, they’re better off going after less of them but are of a higher level that could end up making an impact where as outside of Stalker 2, I don’t see any timed exclusive that Microsoft has paid for doing anything. In fact, you could combine them all and they would do anywhere near as much as what FF16 would have done for Xbox as a timed exclusive.

As for timed exclusives not benefiting anybody, that’s not true because it benefits the platform holder by getting more consumers into buying their console which in turn means that they’re in their eco-system which in turn means more money spent in that eco-system which in turn means more money for that brand and company.

My guess is that MS is primarily interested in timed exclusives if they can get them on Game Pass. It sounds like not everybody is down with the Game Pass model yet though.

Yeah, true. I agree with this but let’s be honest, unless it’s a heavy hitter, none of these are going to get more people interested and invested into Xbox and the eco-system which in turn leads to Game Pass. It’s great for current subscribers but how many new subscribers are really going to go out and hassle themselves to find a Series X/S just to sign up for Game Pass to play The Medium for example? Nobody is doing that.

I always mention that Microsoft should go after GTA 6 as a full Xbox Series X/S and PC exclusive (screw the timed shit, I go all out) because that’s the one single game and franchise that would literally create a paradigm shift, period. Hell, even as a one year timed exclusive for Xbox, holy shit, it would make Sony getting FF16 and all the other timed exclusives they paid for seem like it didn’t even happen. lol

Last year was the first step on third party releases. So far, they’re proven to be helpful and successful. Perhaps more will chip in soon. Not to mention, some games are coming in earlier than say a year later for it to arrive.

I don’t mind Xbox wasting money to secure timed exclusives, It ain’t my money. Don’t give a crap if they lose money on it. More games the better.

Microsoft has 100 billion at hand if you want to be pedantic.

They secured those games before Microsoft bid for Bethesda.

The difference was Microsoft had 8 billion to put on the table… Sony was playing with pocket change to secure 2 games. Microsoft secured the whole company.

Yes good for them. Microsoft could had bid for Deathloop and Ghostwire if they were open for exclusivity and they didnt.

I wonder if Sony is interested in NFTs. If that were to happen, how much defense points would the fans need?

Maybe Microsoft knew late in the game what Sony was upto and bought Zenimax, before they grabbed Starfield or Elder Scrolls 6…

I assume they ran calculations and projected figures and concluded it wasn’t worth it. As far as I’m concerned it does suck that there’s timed exclusivity but I’m totally OK with waiting a year if it means I don’t have to pay for it (plus if you wanna get into our grapes they’ll be more stable and balanced)

So I got a PS5 over the Christmas holiday (we purchased it back in September and as a gift to our son) but the experience on the console / software side of the things has been lukewarm, albeit getting better.

As someone who games primarily on the Xbox since Game Pass entered the ring, my plan was to use the PS5 primarily for Sony’s exclusives. I had no intentions of subscribing to PS Plus.

I started with God of War, which I missed out on last gen, after buying the disc version for $10. After 10 - 15 hours into the game, my PS5 had a hard crash. The save data was corrupt and could not load. Because I didn’t have PS Plus, the file was not backed up to the cloud. I ended up subscribing to PS Plus so I could upload the file to the cloud and then redownload it hoping the issue would be cleared up but no - my save cannot be recovered.

Then God of War itself could not load past the menu. I kept getting corrupt game data errors. Then Spider-Man Remastered, which I hadn’t played up to this point, could not load and was also identified as corrupt despite having never launched it.

I followed the instructions through Sony’s support site and ended up having to completely reinstall the system software through safe mode. The install kept getting hung up in safe mode and it felt like I was stuck in an endless loop. Sony ended shipping me a box so I could send it for repairs or replacement and it was at this point that I was FINALLY able to get the OS reinstalled.

I haven’t went back to God of War (I’m still salty and need to give the game some time before a full restart) but I have been playing Spider-Man which I am LOVING and has been issue free so far (knock on wood).

I was on the phone with Sony support who were very friendly and suggest I put the console to the test before sending it back right away since I have 30 days to send for repairs.

So while things started rather miserably, it does seem like things are back on track. I am put off by an $89.99 CDN price tag for games (Game Pass spoiled me) and the cloud save system, so I’ll likely wait for sales and discounts or use gift cards to buy exclusives. Looking forward to completing Spider-Man in time for Horizon.

I haven’t experienced the Dual Sense features yet, but while I like the controller more than the DS4 I still don’t think it stacks up to the Series X one.

Hoping things will be better. I am looking forward to the exclusives I’ve missed out on and that are coming.

I could be saying this because of my negative experience, but the console doesn’t feel as “premium” as the Series X and S do, if that makes sense. God of War disc version vs. the PS Plus Collection, for example, didn’t even accept the same save! With the Series X everything has just worked across all platforms, regardless of the device you’re using, and my progress goes with me seamlessly. Not warring here - and I know my opinions can change after my PS5’s problems are ironed out.

Good to hear that the console is working. Did you already own the disc version of GOW because if not, you should have just signed up for PS Plus to get that Collection of Games which includes GOW and your cloud save issue with have been solved at the same time plus it would have cost the same amount for a month as what you paid for GOW - $10. If you already owned the disc, then disregard what I just said.

Spider Man 2018 is freaking awesome. Loved that game.

Yeah, PS5 doesn’t have the quality of stuff like Xbox does. Your games just working, free cloud saves (which have saved me twice within a year) and no day one games on a subscription service ala Game Pass.

Using the PS5 as an exclusives only console is what everyone does (including myself) if it’s their secondary console because nearly everything seems to just be easier on Xbox.

I understand what you mean but it not feeling premium. When you have a Series X and open the box, it’s like, damn this is excellent packaging but when you open the PS5 box, it’s like, that’s it? Of course, PS5 has already had a few amazing exclusives with many more to come which if they’re for you, makes up for the issues especially when you consider it to be your secondary exclusives only console.

Either way, I hope the PS5 stays working for you and that you continue to enjoy Spider Man 2018 and can eventually go back to GOW.

Playing Shadow of the Colossus and man Bluepoint has such a beautiful engine so Im excited to see what they can do with it if they do their own original game.

Now back on SoTC … the sand snake and the bull colossi were awful and this games controls are TOO authentic with bad camera and janky controls.
