What I find odd is there seems a large group of people who will literally praise Sony regardless of what they do or don’t do. Its blind praise. If Sony told them their games would cost $500 each they’d somehow spin that to Xbox games are cheap and Sony games are so expensive because they are so good.
I see very little of this on the Xbox side - people seem to criticise MS a lot more and take a more balanced view. Sure I’m sure there are some nutty zealots I’m unaware of but it just seems a lot more prevalent from the Sony lot.
A lot of these folks seem not nearly as grown up to be honest. That’s not to say that every Sony gamer is like that, absolutely not but you’re right about not seeing that much from the Xbox side.
And this is why the Seires S and xCloud are a thing, MS knows they’re not going to get the extreme hardcore to drop another $500 on another console and even the extreme hardcore wouldn’t be caught with a Xbox in their house. The amount of times I’ve seen people say they hate Xbox because it’s Xbox or they don’t want to buy one because it’s a Xbox is really high lol.
MS is using PC/x/Cloud/XSS as a trojan horse into these households, it’s probably the reason why they tried testing the Xbox Game Pass twitter account as just Game Pass with the Xbox logo. Some people can’t stand the thought of owning a Xbox for some really strange reason lol.
I’m sure there’s probably people on Xbox like this too but I myself do not see it, though I probably just notice it more on PS side because I’m more Xbox side.
I’d say hardcore gamers have gravitated towards Xbox over the years…for a few reasons. Xbox Live. Superior controller for FPS games. More focus on matters than concern that hardcore – latency reduction etc…more support for esports
Playstation has always IMHO been about scooping up the casual gamers or the serious about gaming but only playing single player style games.
Guess it depends what definition you use for hardcore etc…
But I’ve always seen the PS as a system for mainly people who want to play easy games on their own…
Some people treat Sony like a charity and would throw money at them directly if they could. These are the people that always think of Sony finances before themselves as gamers, It is like some weird cult.
Sony fans are afraid to criticize their Sony idol corp, while Xbox fans will rake Xbox through the gutter if something is not right. It’s better to hold a company accountable then to let them get away with anything. That is partially why Xbox has the best hardware and best services this gen and now has more 1st party developers. Xbox would have not done that if Xbox fans did not hold them accountable for past mistakes.
I believe it was GameSpot on Youtube that had in their video title “Xbox doesn’t have to bring Bethesda games to other platforms”, I guess props for them on actually being honest. I can easily see this narrative change to “but that doesn’t mean they won’t, since Phil is a good guy.” lol
Went through everything I could find, and you are correct; he had responded to someone else who had complained as such about the Bethesda deal and I misread the string. Thanks for calling me out when I make a mistake as I never want to mislead or disinform (there’s too much of that going on elsewhere); I’ll edit the original with a strikethrough and add an addendum.
That is exactly what Julien Chieze (french well known, former journalist, now youtuber) was getting at. He said that Phil didn’t say anything about Bethesda games going exclusive… But what he and many people don’t understand is that : he didn’t say these games will go on PS either. He talked mostly about Xbox, PC, Xcloud.
Also, he can’t properly say anything about properties and licences that MS is still in the process of acquiring. Phil is not going to be clear about that, because they are still evaluating their avenues and potential growth. But when he says that Xbox don’t need to recoup their investment with the PS platform, it is pretty clear. That is really as clear as it can be. They are not forced to do that. Actually, they are better if they keep most of their games and properties off the competition, even Nintendo.
Honestly shouldn’t really matter to Xbox fans. Hypothetically even if some games did come day to other platforms, if you have access to the Xbox ecosystem, you get the version tailored made for Xbox day 1 for no additional cost (if you subscribe to Game Pass). I don’t expect them to get ported but nothing changes in terms of the crazy Xbox value proposition if they did.
I know it shouldn’t matter to me, the more players that get to enjoy them the better. At the same time this is a amazing opportunity for Xbox to truly grow, truly become a force to be reckoned with again and I just kinda like that idea. Of course the people that just have Playstation will miss out on them, but they can get it for their PC or get Xbox too.
And this might sound petty, but I just want to kinda rub it in the faces of the silly console warriors/fanboys that always blabber on about how Xbox has no games, those that genuinely enjoyed the negative news about Xbox One in 2013 (I recall GAF gushing over CoD being 720p and mods even played along with that behavior), basically the Amazing Lucases of this world. The type of people that say Bethesda games are trash but in reality they hate that they will have to get PC or Xbox now.
That being said, one argument in that post where I inserted a picture of had a point. Would they throw away all that hard work for PS5 version of Starfield? I have no answer to that.
Nah…way too many problems going on in the world to rub it in the faces of fanboys. There’s often collateral damage in fanboy salt exchanges. Just nicely point out the affordable ways they can still access the stuff. There’s tribal people in everything. Iphone vs Android, Chipotle vs Qdoba…but play what you like and hope for a healthy industry. Feels good to not worry about fanboy wars. Xbox will have too many games to dilute time towards it.
I think this is the key take away here, we know the primary reason for MS acquiring Zenimax and that is to provide game pass content no debate there.
What we don’t know is whether their secondary motivation was to drive game pass subscriber numbers. The answer to that question dictates how they will handle exclusivity. If their intent is to invest in long term sub growth they make the games people want to play exclusive to their platform.
If not then the alternative model is they continue to sell multiplat to increase revenue to invest in more game pass content.
As a game pass subscriber or Xbox gamer no one should care which they choose because you still benefit greatly no matter how you consume with more low cost games or more high quality content.
My impression is that MS is in this for the long game, so based on what we know I’d say exclusivity makes more sense but I guess we’ll see the extent and timescales for that.
Is it irritating to read the fan boy chatter? yes of course but that’s what mute, block and this place are for. Just ignore it doesn’t matter what anyone says those kind of people will either ignore what you say or change the goal posts. result = your life will be better
I agree that 3rd party multiplatform moneyhats are a shitty practice but 1st party exclusives/system sellers should actually matter to us if you think about it. More exclusive system sellers mean bigger fanbase/more people with different tastes on the platform which then translates to more support from 3rd party developers - a console with a low install base is more unlikely to get support than a console with a healthier fanbase. Just compare the Japanese 3rd party support of 360 to One, the low install base of One paired with the narrower customer tastes resulted on less support from Japan. So yeah I get what you mean but good sales mean better support aka more games available to the platform and to us of course.
I don’t expect Insomniac to make a Series X/S game any time soon so the same should apply to Bethesda and PS5 owners, if they want to play the games there is a plethora of options to choose from even if they deny to buy an Xbox. They have to deal with it and move on.
From what I’ve read, Japanese gamers are apparently abandoning consoles in favor of PC and mobile, with the Switch being a notable exception. I hope that Microsoft’s twin efforts of PC support and xCloud will make developing for the platform more appealing to Japanese devs. I’ve heard that the new GDK should help develop games for XB/PC in parallel as well.
I really like Japanese games in general, so it would be a real boon for me. I would love for MS to be more broadly appealing if it means we Xbox owners can play a greater variety of games on our preferred platform(s). More third-party content from Japan would also help diminish the need for MS to buy or establish a Japanese studio.
To be clear, I’m not saying this is the gen that Xbox breaks into the Japanese market and dethrones Sony and Nintendo I’m just hoping as always that games get a broader audience. I’m afraid I don’t have a source for that first claim, by the way, just remembering discussions.
