Problem is a lot of the “quotes” are wrong or cut up to try to convey whatever narrative they are trying to push. Wouldn’t matter who they do it with as it would be twisted out context and used in their own opinion based articles.
I prefer him being honest and trying i be transparent. The bad journalist are going to run whatever garbage they want to push out and people just need to stop giving them clicks
Seriously. This whole thing felt so surreal. Like I was scratching my head to the bone because I just didn’t get what tf was going on One big joke that was.
They need to get better at learning where to place their stuff and their internal testing needs to be reworked. From the way Phil described it, the barren game world and shaky AI weren’t even considered when they were doing their internal testing of the game. Only crashes really seem to throw up red flags.
On the subject of learning where to release their stuff, I believe they should have sandwiched Redfall between the Starfield Direct and the Xbox Showcase. Starfield Direct in April, Redfall in May, Showcase in June. Even if they internally thought it would score in the 70s. They easily could have mitigated the damage by putting the game out after an amazing Starfield Direct, and then palete cleansed with Avowed and whatever else the showcase has. Instead of seeing Redfall as a singular misstep, now their first party games have an unnecessary stigma attached to them and you have people speculating that Phil is getting fired after they posted another quarter of growth.
A similar misstep happened when they stacked all their games into Fall 2021 and they basically punted on 2022 when they didn’t have to. The immediate gratification of winning best publisher award was great but the PR hit of such a barren 2022 basically wiped away that win. They need to be much more calculated in their approach.
I, first post here, trying to interact with a social group.
I also think that I like both the humanity of Phil and the people around, and also I think this is couterproductive since we live a shark world. Internet people are living in the instant and have a frightening short term memory. They also have an agenda and live for the click and the short term fame. I am not even talking about the fanboys but the internet medias which are desperate for attention and materials.
Yes, it was. One of the best interview we got. But at the same time, you know that honesty is not pushing you very far in the real world.
I keep from the interview that Redfall was a remaining of the old Bethesda. it should have been cancelled. Not matter what is said, Arkhane was punished by the old direction for the bad sales of Prey. I also understand that Phil wanted to show its trust in Bethesda.
i also keep the information, they are ready to deliver one big game every quarter, which is more that I can play. 2002 was bad for heavy hitters but 2021 was the year of Flight Sim, Psychonauts, F5, Halo, Deathloop. The problem of Xbox was that the rest of the teams was not ready to deliver. This will be soon over.
My comment was just about doing these interviews which may not help diminish or even distract from the negativity, on the contrary, so why bother going to these shows ?
I think I’m just baffled by the reactions and it’s starting to get to me…
It is the truth that Nintendo and Sony are much more tight lipped. Xbox would have had the stories of harassment that Nintendo of America and Naughty Dog/insomniac had, Phil would already have been on Twitter and youtube. The other did say nothing and the critics went elsewhere, since they change their target every day. Based on this, we know Redfall will be old news by next week and maybe Phil should have just been silent.
Doesn’t matter what Phil did they would have turned it negative like they always do. It’s cool to hate on Xbox, that’s why I don’t put any stock in their opinions.
Even that 30fps notice should have been silent dropped on launch or a terrible 60fps ala Jedi survivor would done it. There should be a limit to transparency, media is now taking advantage of Xbox’s willingness to listen and respond. The Sony and Nintendo way is probably better for this media.
Maybe even stop all these podcast appearances to these media outlets, just limit them to rare Xbox focused podcast.
Phil was talking to us, not them. Who cares what they think.
Why should Phil be afraid to talk to the Xbox community on the fear of the reactions of the people who were going to hate no matter what.
Nobody likes Xbox, stop trying get their validation because it’ll make you feel better about the platform you picked. I’d pull a heel turn so damn fast if I was Phil man. They’re lucky he’s a nice guy.
I’m curious whose decision it was to continue development after the acquisition completed. I could absolutely see a situation where Arkane Austin is like “are we seriously going to tell our new bosses to cancel our project and wait 3-4 years for our next game?”
Perhaps they knew they had a bad game, but felt that with an additional year in development could salvage the project enough to hit a mid 70s MC score and maybe finds an audience on Game Pass.
I barely tried Redfall. So it is hard to comment how much the game can be improved, but Bethesda a a legacy of unfinished games that went better afterwards (Fallout76, ESO, etc) Even GhostWire Tokyo seems to be very improved with the Spider release.
Bethesda is fully independent up to now. The same that were praising this independence are now asking MS to be more hand off. This independence gave us Hifi Rush and Redfall. Sometimes, it works, sometimes not.
The 2021 games released in 2021 because Xbox thought they were ready and not to score some (meaningless) award on Metacritic. Producers told them 2022 would be filled with big Bethesda games. When Xbox released their 2021 games they didn’t knew about these delays and the war in Ukraine. So no Redfall, no Starfield, no Stalker. 2022 was calculated to be a big year for Xbox.
