I wish gamers and gaming media would understand its not a zero sum industry.
Xbox can be 3rd place in hardware sales forever and still be very profitable and still offer great games, services and value for gamers in the eco system.
The entire sport fans mentality of the gaming industry is horribly toxic and takes something that could be fun and makes it miserable.
Last week I stayed off of forums for gaming and was much happier just playing fun games then wallowing in the toxic game community railing on Xbox because they get off on any Xbox mis step. Its a bummer but lately gaming is more fun not participating in the gaming community.
I think also people dont understand people are not going to sell their PS5 that would be silly but maybe pick up a series console as a second console or even just play in the cloud.
No one is going to outright âswitchâ but they can join the ecosystem however they want
Whatâs funny about this we have people in the industry saying Microsoft should become third party. However, they donât see the big picture that theyâre playing a different game than Sony and Nintendo.
If Microsoft by end of gen hits at least 50million gamepass subs then they can at least generate $8billion annually in revenue with gamepass alone. I got to that number by averaging the monthly cost of gamepass tiers.
Anyways, Microsoft doesnât need to match Sony in console sales because with recurring revenue model (subscription) + traditional sales model is their goal, which would net them with a significant amount of revenue theyâll be satisfied with.
I feel this. Too many people celebrating losses and not celebrating gaming. Too many people focused on speculation and again not focused on gaming. Thatâs why I felt like it was embarrassing. Yes we can talk about this missteps of Xbox but when that becomes the whole conversation what are we doing? Whatâs the purpose? The whole topic has become toxic and we arenât being productive. I think all of those folks who were having doom sessions last week really need to ask themselves are they moving the conversation forward? The Xcast conversation felt real and genuine. The IGN one doesnât.
Just feels like folks are dunking to dunk and they have no interest in the brand or the fans. We as gamers deserve better than that.
I was 13 years old when the Xbox One generation began and it was when I began to be in video game forums (both in spanish and english) and I can say that it was the worst mistake as a âgamerâ.
Two weeks ago I decided to stop visiting certain forums and twitter out of mere common sense. The Internet is a toxic place regardless of the subject you see, favoritism towards certain brands and rejection of some others has been more than evident for years. Everything related to Activision brought out every particle of hate on the part of many people, having to take it out on developers about games that even they were not willing to try just for the mere fact of ânot belonging to my plastic consoleâ.
10 years after starting my life in forums, I decided to stay away from almost all of them. If thatâs what a nobody feels, I imagine the pressure of the head of the brand that has a life practically in the company that has been openly hated all these years. Anyway, Xbox will still be here, with or without Activision, with Redfall being the GOTY or having a bad launch, the future seems promising, although of course you can understand the feeling of many when things are not as they had been thought.
The thing that really drives this home is that Xbox is bringing in as much revenue as Nintendo despite selling a fraction of the consoles and Nintendoâs games selling 10 million units minimum for most titles (first party).
This is exactly how I feel. I would love to watch/read content and opinions about games like Redfall without it needing to be an indictment on something much larger. Instead of âRedfall is disappointing for xy and zâ, itâs âXbox canât make great games! Whatâs wrong with them?!â. Itâs exhausting and I refuse to consume content like that.
I really hate this as well. I remember being mocked and ridiculed for owning a Zune back in the day. God forbid anyone use an mp3 player device that didnât descend from the heavens with an apple logo attached to it. Forget that the Zune allowed me to load music from a subscription service that gave me access to pretty much everything that was out there (years before Spotify) instead of having to pay $1.50-$2 for every song.
People suck and always will with their tribal bullshit. Iâm nice here on the forums and the internet, but in real life when someone questions my judgment for owning what I own, I kindly tell them to fu** off.
Yep, fans need to get over the whole âsalesâ thing thinking there are absolute winners and losers and just enjoy the games and great value xbox offers. Also if you want a console on the Xboxe eco system you have great options to choose from.
it was a pretty good interview.
Coincidentally i choose the same day as the interview to get back to into Xbox gaming after not playing much Xbox since the Xbox 360 days. (I flipping loved that console and its library)
Ordered a Series X and 2 years of game pass.
And more ironic how many companies (such as Microsoft) were ahead of certain practices that were criticized by thousands and today are the daily bread. Not allowing a company to innovate for fear of controlling the market but years later accepting that life when the mainstream company imposes it.
The hysteria that happened last gen about the Kinect voice recognition feature. I remember everybody calling it a NSA device then years later everybody is buying voice recognition devices from Apple, Amazon, and Google. Also, lets not forget a lot of people use that feature on their smartphone. I wasnât a fan of forcing the Kinect, but I did think it was innovative way for navigation and I did like kinect focused apps like Xbox Fitness that was created because of it
It was terrible timing. The whole Snowden-NSA affair wasnât that long ago, and the thought of putting a camera in your living room that was constantly recording and that you couldnât unplug was a no-go for a lot of people at that point. Perfect storm.
I donât disagree, but I am talking more about innovation and Microsoft being early to the party. Unsure where Microsoft couldâve taken Kinect, but the pushback and every outlet making articles against it was unfortunate. It was just ironic a couple of years after Alexa and Siri became household items and people stopped caring about that nonsense.
Some of the things Phil said regarding Starfield were encouraging tbh, seems really confident that they did a great job making sure that game releases in a polished state and wishes they had done the same with Redfall, I also wish they had done a better job with Redfall but honestly I donât think I can ever blame Xbox for the quality of that game, itâs just a bad game fundamentally, no amount of polishing was ever gonna fix the very bad creative decisions, I could handle any great Arkane game with many bugs for example because fundamentally theyâre amazing but Redfall has none of that, anyway really hope Arkane goes back to making games like Dishonored and Prey again because that is where they shine, yeah this is me begging for a Dishonored 3, I need it!!
As for the upcoming show, just hope they keep DLC updates for ESO, FO6 and SOT to a minimum, I feel like theyâre always just not necessary in these shows and I doubt must people who tune in to game shows do it because of these old games, itâs mostly people who want to see new stuff IMO and donât be afraid to show gameplay for games that may still be a year or 2 away from release, if Fable is aiming for 2025 but they have amazing gameplay ready to show, as Matt Booty has teased before by the way, then just show it to us.
And regulators are literally helping them to keep it this way by blocking any publisher Microsoft attempts to get as the CMA implied, the status quo basically means Sony has no reason to innovate and perhaps do a Game Pass or offer their games on more platforms like Microsoft does through PC and Xcloud, but I agree with them, staying away from places like Twitter and other era etc really makes gaming a much more enjoyable experience.
Yeah this was the one comment that was a head scratcher. Yes 11/10 exclusive games wonât make people sell their PS5, but it will bring people outside of the Xbox ecosystem into it via Gamepass, which is the whole goal.
