Paramount+'s 'Halo' TV Series Has Been Cancelled, Producers Desire a Third Season

As soon as your show becomes one of those shows where its fanbase says “the real story begins at “X” season”, you’ve already lost the war.

Guess the show and game finally got something in common, giving the fandom what they want several seasons later when it’s already too late.

Highly doubt they do a reboot, wouldn’t make financial sense to do that. It either gets picked up for a final season somewhere or more likely that we won’t see a live action halo tv show any time soon in the near/far future.

I hope they try again with the IP but within the animated medium. Do it justice in the medium that perfectly suits the IP.

I’ve always the show should have been made by Blur Studios and is completely CG. But then I realized it would have been an unrealistic ask considering the high cost of that pedigree of CG.

Even though the TV show cost $10 million in episode that wouldn’t cover the budget to do a completely CG episode.

Though I’m sure there’s lots of room for innovation in this space. Having Blur Studios create the environments and characters and then have it rendered in real time in UE5 using metahumans and all of that stuff could possibly mean lower costs. Still a high cost but lower than usual.

2D animation would be the most realistic solution. And I’m sure it would get a large audience but it probably wouldn’t compare to live action in terms of viewership.

With Hollywood rebooting things left and right I’m actually more bullish on the idea of a reboot in 10 years. Apparently the ratings for this show was pretty good despite the many issues with it.

Yeah, good call. I think a CGI animated series could be good.

That said, the handful of action scenes were fine. I just wasn’t interested in the teen brat drama and the usual girl power nonsense we apparently need in every show these days.

Damn, then you would certainly hate my dream Halo TV show then.

I want it to be mainly about Halsey and the Spartan 2 program in its infancy.

I would have no problem with that. I just don’t understand the show that we did get, and why a (supposedly) badass Master Chief needs to be bailed out and/or get his ass kicked by women on a regular basis.

Make a show about badass women. Bring it on. I absolutely loved Killing Eve, for example! But you don’t make “Halo” and turn it into whatever that was.

Personal opinion only, obviously. :upside_down_face:

Maybe we’ll get a Kwan-Ha spinoff…

I think they should just let it go. If anything, build a show or mini-series around the next Halo game.

As I’ve said repeatedly, if this show isn’t picked up do not expect anything Halo tv/movie related for an incredibly long time if ever. This show alone took 20’ish years of work to finally release and if it’s a failure after two season they’re not getting another shot anytime soon.

I don’t know. The craze for game movies and series seem to be in vogue and so that might change minds. Besides there have been a bunch of halo projects in the past like Halo Legends and forward unto Dawn. Something tells me there will be another one maybe in 2026. Also, I do recall they divided the halo group into 3 with one just handling the multimedia side of it.

If I were a producer, the Halo community seems like the hardest to work with / get enthused. Seems like it’d be a much easier / larger play to go with IP with less baggage and a lot more crossover appeal (esp. at lower budgets)

The whole “the Chief never takes off his helmet” thing was ridiculous - we weren’t exactly going to get much of a story otherwise, as away from the battlefield if he kept his helmet on forever he’d be considered a bit weird - and he’d smell…

So yeah I get what you mean, fingers crossed we can get an animated series or someone picks this up

Now that you mention it, I started thinking of what other Xbox IPs could transition to TV, and I’d love an animated series of Crackdown starring Terry Crews. It’s ripe for similar OTT gore/violence of Fallout, Crews has good comedy chops, and the Narrator would also be pretty fun.

We never got to see V in Vendetta and Judge Dredd is a similar character besides they just needed to divert things away from revealing his face or just focus on other characters story where he briefly features in the action scenes. He did also take off his Helmet in the games, but they still never showed us.

There has never been anything about Chief’s character in any of the stories that would require his helmet to always stay up

But still the mythos was built intothe games and I think that is just something that people liked. They could have built up to a face reveal or allowed the character to wear the helmet a little more. I haven’t read any of the books so my understanding of the character is totally based on the games.

If halo the game is going downhill in popularity and relevance then no i disagree. MS should ignore halo related movies and tv and focus on Gears…which is 10x more safe and imo more interesting as it focuses on more characters.

Can someone confirm that Halo is coming to Netflix March 1?

At least, it is in some markets that we can confirm. Scrolling through Netflix’s upcoming list here in the UK, lo and behold, Master Chief is hitting the service on March 1. That’s not too far away. Alas, my U.S. colleagues don’t currently see the same, but that’s not to say it isn’t happening. Licensing is rarely our friend.

There is some uncertainty about which countries. I often see Netflix shows advertised online which are U.S. only :pensive:
