No, Xbox's Next Gen Console Hardware Plans Aren't Cancelled (Windows Central)

The fact these latest hardware exit rumors continue to seem plausible is a real problem. It showcases, to me, a very deep disconnect between Microsoft and how its audience and the community at large views gaming in general.

I could easily be just as random a source claiming that Xbox hardware is still on the table, but it was our sources that confirmed the existence of the Xbox Series X|S, their specs, their price, in addition to reports on the cancelled cloud “Keystone” console, the shelved first-party Xbox handheld, and more recently, the Xbox Ally. Codenamed Kennan and comprised of Omni (Xbox Ally) and Horseman (Xbox Ally X), the Xbox Ally range is part of Microsoft’s multi-year partnership with AMD, which will include tailor-made devices from first party.

I’ve asked multiple trusted sources, many of whom spoke to me on the above devices previously which turned out to be true, about what Xbox’s present hardware posture is. For now, it remains unchanged.

Hello. Sporadic reminder:

Just to reiterate the source of this rumor is neogaf poster SneakersSo who I have kept an eye on since 2016

SneakersSO has been posting anti Xbox fud for almost 10 years now.

  1. He claimed Marvel Vs Capcom : Infinite was going to be Playstation 4 exclusive, it wasn’t
  2. Claimed the Xbox One X was being delayed out of 2017, it wasn’t,
  3. Claimed Microsoft wasn’t going to work with Playground Games anymore and wanted to force MTX in their second studio game, so they were going to make games for Sony Interactive Publishing
  4. Would claim he knew the content for Showcases, always being wrong
  5. Would claim Capcom was planning on going Playstation exclusive
  6. Got banned from resetera for being asked for proof and was banned when he couldn’t provide any.

Theres a lot more, but you get the gist

This person is a complete fraud and always, hops on the bandwagon to spread bad news for Xbox.

*Edit - He is now claiming Phil Spencer has been using marketing funds for an Astroturfing PR campaign. Paul Tassi and Tom Warren have said he’s talking absolute nonsense.

Can’t believe people give this nonsense any time of day, the media is just useless these days, running with any story from any fanboy from some sweaty corner of the internet. Why would they release the Ally if this was the case? along with the commitments they’ve already made with AMD etc. Very few take a moment to think, it’s so boring at this point, rinse and repeat.

I still can’t see some of the post from twitter, but is this the same one Jez made?

Yeah, it would be nice if people stopped linking twitter as if everyone is a Musk-supporter and uses that shite.

There is a deep disconnect, but how does Microsoft even combat this? They’ve been putting more investment than ever in growing the Xbox brand, having a physical presence at shows, hosting their own shows, gaining support for Xbox CONSOLE ports in Asia, and just generally getting Xbox leadership out there promoting the ecosystem. TGS was just a couple of weeks ago where Xbox announced more support than ever for the console in Asia and Gamescom wasn’t far behind and then we run into the Xbox Games Showcase which shortly after included a literal announcement for next Gen hardware plans. Yet all of this is in the gutter from them raising the most expensive Game Pass tier? No one is even talking about how premium didn’t go up in price and now has more benefits + first party in a yearor that cloud and PC are on all tiers. The rational conclusion to draw would be that the economy is bad and Xbox is raising prices like everyone or that Xbox just wants to make day one games a benefit for less subscribers and offset losses by raising the price of Ultimate and downgrading most people to a better valued premium. Instead the internet went with the most irrational conclusion that “Xbox Game Pass Ultimate raising $10 = all first party plans are DEAD.” Like what do you do against that?

“designed and engineered by Xbox” is a dope clarification to get out of this. An Xbox made by Xbox AND OEMs flooding the market might seriously be what Xbox needs. Hopefully next Gen it drowns out the noise.

I feel like ‘the internet’ is largely made up of a couple very popular video game forums that over time developed into a group of people who love one console and hate the other. Nothing wrong with that on its face. However, these particular forums attract people who find more enjoyment in discussing their hate on the other guy vs discussing the things they actually like. So that hate just grows.

To answer your question, I don’t think there is much they can do. This group of people who are mentally locked into certain brands aren’t worth chasing. Go after everyone else. They say this play anywhere strategy speaks to the next gen of gamers who don’t have these same allegiances. So that is a good start.

I know Microsoft is rich but I don’t think they’re going to risk making an enemy out of AMD . I think the AMD partnership guarantees there’s some type of hardware for next gen. We do t fully know what it will be but I think it’s very slim that Microsoft screws over an important partner like amd
