I played Pikmin 3, but this was almost 10 years ago. I don’t remember anything
Man Nintendo prices can be goofy.
Straight port with almost no changes? Yeah, that’ll be 60 bucks please.
Halo 2 Anniversary-tier remaster, one of the best looking games on Switch? That’ll be $40!
It’s not goofy, they are pricing MPR accordingly. Metroid is still a niche IP when compared to Nintendo’s other IPs and pricing the remaster at full price would do more harm than good. My guess is that they want to introduce the Switch owners who are not familiar with the series via the remaster and to prepare them for MP4. It’s a very smart move as it was also a really smart move from Bethesda to sell HFR at 30 euros. I’d like to see this continue and see publishers have more flexible pricing ranges not because I think that the games above don’t deserve to be full price (it’s actually the opposite) but because maybe with those lower prices certain franchises/genres can be successful.
As much as I love Dead Space Remake (and even if I think it’s worth every penny) I think that this is one other example of a game that would benefit greatly if it was priced in the 50e range instead of the full 80e. I guess we’ll see in the future if introducing pricing tiers will be a thing and what it will do for the more niche games/genres.
Ill get it when its on a 45 buck sale.
So never then? lol. It sucks that we can’t play the patient gamer card to save money on Nintendo games.
Nintendo games go on sale regularly for 45 bucks. Bought odyssey and botw digital for 45 bucks last year and pikmin 3 was 40 bucks a few times too.
But 40 and 45 is as low as they go.
Figured this OT could use a bump - managed to snag a Zelda Switch. Anyone else?
I don’t know what it is, I put in 150 hours into BOTW, but so far even after the video today my hype just isn’t there for Tears of the Kindgom. I feel like there is missing context to what is going on and my brain doesn’t like it.
If it makes you feel better, I bought BotW on the Wii U and the Switch (long story) and I tried a dozen times to like the damn game, but just couldn’t. I’m an OG Legend of Zelda fan and have at least one copy of every LoZ to date (bought Oracle of Ages and Seasons both day one), and so I wanted to love it.
BotW just felt like too much of a departure for me - lack of proper dungeons, seemingly empty open-world, shitty weapon management systems, etc. - and even though I love everything Monolith touch, I was just disappointed with the world design.
Fast forward to 2023, I had a bit of a series of terrible events at the Knottian household and I was just clinging back to nostalgia for comfort. Decided to give BotW a try after beating Twilight Princess again (the game is tied between LttP and OoT for my favorite in the series). For some reason, this time everything clicked for me and I’ve been taking a more leisurely approach to the game and the world, and loving every second. So, after all that, I actually am excited for TofK when I couldn’t have cared less six months ago (which still pains me to say as a LoZ fanatic).
Yeah, I think some of your original quibbles with the game are part of the reason Im not connecting with this one yet. The biggest being the lack of proper dungeons which they havent addressed.
The came out today and made it pretty clear that instead of addressing player concerns with the weapon durability system (which I didnt really have a problem with) that their solution was just “make some weapons out of stuff on the ground”. Which leaves me a tad fearful the dungeon issue may not get addressed. Though, those concerns very well could be proven unfounded.
I think my other concern is how much of the game is going to be based on me having to Nuts N Bolts vehicles together. That type of game mechanic is not my cup of tea.
Part of the missing context part though is them saying “does it have a ceiling? Cool, well just teleport through it because reasons”.
And Im just sitting there going…but why though? Why can I just blast through a ceiling, or a mountain. One of the high points of BOTW was the traversal mechanics. You would see something up high and say “oh dang, I need to improve my stamina so I can get up there”. Now, just pass through the mountain!
With that said, I am pretty confident that most of my concerns are just things they are keeping under wraps for now. Im sure Ill enjoy it every bit as much as BOTW. My favorite part was just how peaceful it was most of the time. The wind, the subtle music, the nature sounds.
It’s fun to see this thread pop up every now and then. For me, I actually still just have my launch Switch. I intend to use it to the end.
As far as the BOTW talk goes, I enjoyed the game. Not a life changer or anything of the sort though. Did all the shrines and I think most of the side quests. Put, IIRC, 70-80 hours into it.
By the way… Felt like showing off my Switch collection, all laid out, lol. It really is a niche game machine for me before a Nintendo machine.
(DQXI got blocked out by light here lol. Sorry for bad lighting). Top row is all Atelier… Atelier Ryza 3 will be added to that next week.
New Pokemon Snap off to the side. Had one extra game ruin the symmetry that I wasn’t even planning lol.
The blank case here is Splatoon 2. Missing from the image is Super Mario Odyssey as it’s lent out to my sister.
Some limited edition boxes that were too big to put in the lineup.
Love collecting for Switch. No install times, no storage issues, Can put a couple cartridges in my Switch carrying case to take with me, my favorite niche games almost always get a wonderful physical release.
All my Switch games are digital, which I swore I wouldn’t do because I don’t trust Nintendo, so that will probably come back to haunt me.
Yeah that’s another factor. I’ve got no faith in Nintendo’s digital ecosystem. If these cartridges outlive everything they set up I wouldn’t even be surprised.
I have a small few 3DS and Wii U digital games, and I know they are still available to redownload at any leisure, but the looming feeling of “this feature can and likely will be taken down some day” is always there too.
Got the Collectors Edition and the limited Pro controller. Still missing the Amiibo.
Hype Level 100. TotK or Starfield will be my GOTY.
Only 3 minutes? Man, Nintendo is really holding their cards close to their chest with this game.
I’m not a Zelda guy, but BOTW was awesome. So, yeah this could be my GOTY too.
I honestly was expecting another direct and this time significantly longer than the previous one too. Yeah, it seems they are not gonna reveal too much. Or perhaps it just won’t have super many brand new things aside from what we saw last month.
They don’t need reveal too much when everyone is hyped and every collector item is sold out. Just one month and we can finally play it.
As a lifeline LoZ fan who only recently clicked with Breath of the Wild… I’m there Day One. I’ve got the whole kit preordered to boot… now I just have to decide if my wife gets the fancy new OLED, or if I give her my “old” OLED….
I wonder if resi4 remake will come to switch 2.
