I can’t say this wasn’t expected.
Is there any reason to do this other than to raise the price even more? (Or at least to consider raising it)
They will probably raise the US prices, which should be closer to European prices. The only country with decent prices is Japan and Nintendo has region-locked the console lol
All I know, I hope all of this absurdity is put to rest before launch, for all those looking forward to getting their Switches and the blame lies solely at the feet of one person, not Nintendo.
Because US policy is currently made up day to day, so at the moment they’re waiting to see if the tariff on Vietnam (apparently where the Switch is made) comes down from 46% after the government there tries negotiation.
If it doesn’t and the tariff sticks, I’ve no idea how retailers handle it - Nintendo can perhaps lower the unit price it sells to them for or decide to go direct only, but I imagine they’d need to put US prices up by at least 20% as even if they factored them in a bit I don’t think they expected that much.
It’s just insanely stupid policy made by someone with no knowledge of history or how anything works - I’m not surprised Nintendo are buying time to see how this plays out
For the time being, I’m assuming that I will still get Switch 2 on launch. I do live in Minnesota, I suppose I could drive to Canada 
lol
