Same here for Hellblade 2. I watch plenty YouTube, plenty annoying ads, no H2 ad. Not on Reddit, Twitter or whatsoever for me. The only thing on Twitter I saw was Xbox Wire posting an article about it and that’s really about it.
Speaking of which. The embargo for reviews is 1 hour before launch, right? Reason is said to avoid spoilers. But can’t Ninja Theory and or Xbox just tell these reviewers not to spoil a thing?
Same here and in a way I’m actually glad they did the 1 hour embargo.
It stops the review bombing beforehand for being a Xbox game so we can actually enjoy it.
I have already seen people on X saying they are going to give it 4-5/10.
Oh, it’s going to get review bomber by thousands who will never play it just because it’s Xbox, and then it’ll be all over the usual gaming news websites.
It’s sad but true, those review aggregate websites make it worse for no reason and actually let it happen.
Phil Spencer’s words now move stock markets, so I doubt you’ll be hearing him speak much. I do think though internally they are continuing the fight and I think new hardware and a console reform are probably wins they have. The June showcase will be where all the info will be spilled. They will have to get things in line before then. I do feel for the industry though.
We are taking about the overall number of combined video game console sales for each generation. It has been stagnant and topping out at 200 million it so combined for every generation
Agree, but if I wanted to shore up the brand, I’d put out a little video trailing hardware, much as they did with the Project Scorpio teaser. All they’d need to do is repeat the same stuff they’ve already put out there like it being a big jump in power, etc. no actual detail, but it would present a stronger image.
It’d be a good way to ruin series console sales as well though.
Oh, they will talk as they will be having a ton of interviews with media looking for clarity on the issue. Ryan Mccaffrey has already said he is scheduled to interview Phil Spencer and I’m sure other media will be there to cover the event as well.
I doubt we get anything like that yet, maybe next year. This year the most I expect is more of “our teams are hard at work on the next generation of Xbox hardware”
I’m not sure console sales are that much a factor. Lately they’ve been on about the Cloud and who knows they just might reveal their cloud box at the June showcase. Sarah Bond said on the Bloomberg interview they were at capacity.
I mean, Xbox 360 + PS3 tops out at like 170 million or so, PS4 + Xbox One is around there as well. series + PS5 is actually looking like it’ll do a lot worse than that already and that’s not factoring people who own both, which in guessing is trending down as people have moved on to PC and or mobile and there is no new blood as those people either game on mobile or on PC due to playing F2P and that YouTube/Twitch influence .
The numbers don’t lie, there’s just no way to spin it. The way I see it is Xbox started to build something for the future but the market changed right as they were pivoting while Sony and Nintendo had stronger foundations at that time, so with the contraction happening MS felt the bulk of it while the ticking time bomb will affect the other 2 later. This is why we see MS having to adjust on the fly faster than the competition.
You see the same thing in other industries. Look how some are adjusting to the EV transition and others are adamant about using ICE. Those who have a strong foundation when the time comes will be fine; US car manufacturers are trying to milk the old user base but have no long term vision which will bite them in the ass.
MS doing the moves its doing right now in order for the division to stay healthy financially is actually a good thing and I’m sure there is a much larger vision than just « short term profits » like some like to imply, as they have yet to fully reveal their plans to us in due time.
The article clearly mentions that this studio has been operational for a while. It’s just now publicly announced as a new studio within Activision. Not even remotely connected with the studio closures.
