Capcom ainā€™t happening

They are doing too well on their own for a sale?

Yes and are also very open about being multiplatform and especially PC supporters, and with a great relationship with Nintendo and Switch.

Isnā€™t it amazing how this, just like Bethesda did NOT leak? This was a deal agreed upon last year.

Yet tons of game leaks, lol.

It just tells you how they donā€™t really care about game leaks

I know theyā€™ll recover but stillā€¦

Iā€™ve always had trust Sony know what to do and will find their way (to still be at the top or near it) in gaming. This is the first time Iā€™m struggling to think of their position or reaction. Theyā€™re in a competitive situation against tech giants now, like how they once were that giant against Nintendo and SEGAā€¦ giants that are playing by their [Sony] rules they entered the industry with, but magnitudes more amplified in sheer buying power and infrastructure.

I know Sony will be fine, but I think they donā€™t just want to be ā€œfineā€, because that to them might be actually a failure.

Itā€™s certainly not good to potentially lose CoD or mascots that were once heavily associated with you but they are still an insanely popular brand and still have those big blockbuster exclusives people love

Itā€™s definitely a very heavy blow but itā€™s certainly not the death of Sony or anything that extreme

Itā€™s not of course, they are a powerful entertainment and hardware conglomerate but in gaming specifically they only ever seemed to want and thrive If they are dominant. Their console dominance is now extremely threatened.

Capcom is a big fat NO with the massive success of MonHun on Switch (The series sales would PLUMMET as a PS5 exclusive, this would essentially be giving up the JP audience). Theyā€™ve also recently stated that PC will be their most important platform going forward and multiplat development is important too. I donā€™t even know why people attribute Capcom to Sony so muchā€¦ Because of SFV? that was like 7 or 8 years ago now and Capcom was literally close to death then. They took Sony money to partially fund the game at all. Itā€™s not even like a typical moneyhat. With the explosion on MonHun and better RE games Capcom is financially safe and would only LOSE on a Sony deal because again, MonHun would get hit HARD as a PS5 only game. Square could happen but itā€™s not going to move any needlesā€¦ Barely any Square games come to Xbox. Everyone already sees them as a Sony first party anyway. Itā€™s like another Housemarque or something (okay, way bigger, but still, itā€™s not going to affect Xbox owners at all)

Cnbc put up a future m&a targets graphic for Microsoft and among all the American companies(take 2, Roblox, Ea) they had one Japanese company. SegašŸ˜‚

Iā€™m interested to see what they do too, because they pretty much handed Asia/Japan to Nintendo on a silver platter to chase the West, and are now getting smacked pretty hard by MS over here.

Iā€™d faint if they got Sega but for the same reasons I foresee Sony having trouble with a Capcom acquisition I would see for MS acquiring, well any Japanese developer really.

To bring up something I said in the Acquisitions thread again. With a Japanese acquisition this time theyā€™d maaaaybe have to concede and allow at least some things on Switch.

In my view MS are more than covered in the West with the little remaining thing being perhaps mainstem IP licence which doesnā€™t need an acquisition anyway.

The focus now should be on Japan, publishing content and acquisition, preferably a publisher that will make everything easier to them (local relationships, publishing arm, language barrier, etc)

One thing Iā€™m hoping for is that MS make efforts to try and acquire Crystal Dynamics (and TR ip) before any potential Sony Square hook up comes to fruit. No idea how likely this is but I guess there have been historical signs that sqenix are not too keen on TR anymore and we also have CD working on prefect dark.

Would SE mean only SE Japan or just all of SE? Because SE west does bring quite a few games to Xbox.

TR at Xbox would be amazing, absolutely.

I wonder if Sony were to go after SE, If they would only get the Japan division or all of them. A new TR is in development now, but no platforms have been announced yet. If Xbox were to get CD along with TR that would be a fantastic addition.

Difficult situation for Sony there, Jim ā€˜lyinā€™ Ryan has spent years pivoting their strategy away from Japan. In that, he wasnā€™t necessarily wrong - the market there is itself shifting from standard home consoles etc - but he made the mistake of trying to take on Microsoft directly, squeeze Xbox out of the market entirely.

Make no mistake, this acquisition is a direct shot across the bows. CoD is PlayStationā€™s biggest seller. 4 of the top 5 best selling PS4 games are Call of Duty. Crash and Spyro have long been associated with the Sony brand, both featuring exclusively on the PS1 when they started.

PlayStation will recover from this, but Iā€™d imagine theyā€™ll think twice before pursuing a strategy designed to threaten a company worth over $2 trillion
