Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread (Part 1)

I think UK did the same with Nuance acquisition.

Yeah, it is pretty common for deals of such sizes to see delays, Bethesda was the same too.

How long until we hear something ? Sony keeps making plays, Embracer continues to embrace, but MS is stuck in limbo

The UK deadline for phase 1 is today/tomorrow. So we may hear if they approve it or want kick off a deeper dive. (Most likely a deeper dive imo). Microsoft / Activision Blizzard merger inquiry - GOV.UK

I also don’t think Xbox will say or do anything until this is done. Doesn’t meant they aren’t lining things up behind the scenes.

P.S yes I am refreshing that UK page like crazy and I don’t know why I can’t stop.

That limbo will result more than Sony and arguably Embracer has done since then. It’s only matter of time.

We have heard from Phil himself, and from the SEC filing, that MS is still looking into acquisitions, and potentially in places where they don’t have any.

I hope they have lined up IOI, Asobo and INTERIOR/NIGHT already, for after ABK. Next month should be spicy for the deal seems like a fair few countries give their verdicts and such.

Within 2 weeks we will get some responses I think.

What makes you say that

Because a lot of countries had dealines to the first weeks of september.

Cousin Frank is never wrong!

I’m not sure how you can say Microsoft are stuck in limbo when they’re doing a deal that is basically the equivalent value of nearly every deal in gaming history added together.

Sony is acquiring start ups and support studios while MS is trying to close the largest acquisition in gaming and Microsoft history. I keep seeing people compare Sony’s multiple moves to what MS has done and they really dont compare. Dont confuse activity with productivity.

Blizzard alone has more developers/man power than every Sony acquisition in the last two years combined.

Sony buys these small bargain bin studios because it’s all they can afford. People swore Sony would be Square, Capcom and From Soft…instead they bought devs from a garage sale and got a 14% stake in From Soft

No need to be concerned. Microsoft is hardly in limbo considering they’re about to close the biggest deal in gaming history with more IP than all of Sony’s recent deals combined (and that’s just talking about ABK). More Xbox acquisitions will follow, as we know.

Complete nonsense. Also the wrong thread for discussing Sony acqusitions. But in the past couple years they’ve bought the likes of Housemarque, Insomniac, Bluepoint and pretty notibly Bungie for 3.6 billion dollars. On top of this they’ve been expanding with support studios, VR teams as well as financing and acquiring new teams. I’d say they’ve picked up a solid range of studios, and have spent more than a publishers worth doing so.
