Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Great post and the referenced article was an excellent read, thanks for posting :green_heart:

IMO all this noise is caused by news websites hungry for clicks, the deal is nowhere near concerning levels by any antitrust regulation all over the world, also US would never hinder an American company vs chinese and japanese ones, that’s wishful thinking. In EU it will be even less concerning, because Xbox position is much weaker, so the “monopoly” argument doesn’t even stand itself, lmao. Any other region is literally non consequential. Pachter&Co as usual speak without linking their brain to their mouth, lol, IDK how those people can be respected industry analysts.

Also, what would stop MS from simply doing a better bid if Sony were to go for it?

Exactly

Looking st what Sony has bid/spent on devs so far, I have a feeling they won’t be getting any of the big names like Capcom/SE or Take2 and EA, they simply cannot afford it or probably don’t think they need it to stay market leaders.

They could afford it, but something like T2 or EA seems incredibly unlikely given their financial position.

Capcom and SE are realistic, but they would have to want to sell. The idea that Sony outbids all other interested parties for both of them seems far fetched.

I’m not very familiar with how this stuff works, but if MS wanted, can they give Sony a very hard time by just placing a higher bid or doesn’t it always work that way?

I would chill with that if I were you. He’s a friend of the show, and I don’t think the mods would take too kindly to that. Plus he will be on the podcast tomorrow

This is what will happen if Sony try buying Square or WB etc, they won’t rock the boat with a bid because MS will just come in and take it.

…that’s because he is often joking.

So it indeed works like that?

Sony can’t just call or go to one of them, make an offer and if they say yes…done? These companies of course want the highest bid so they’ll contact MS or is it more similar to how a auction goes?

The comments to this are quite something. Things like…Xbox dead if this happens. People hoping it happens so that PS under Disney has more than enough money to buy big pubs too. Consolidation is bad, unless it’s PS.

LMFAO.

Wait… I thought American companies can’t buy Japanese companies :smirk:

Even if Disney bought Sony, it doesn’t mean it’s willing to spend as much money on PlayStation as MS does.

Correction, only Microsoft can’t buy Japanese companies.

But other companies such as……

Walmart, straight out of Arkansas U.S. can buy Seiyu the biggest Japanese supermarket chain.

Tencent can buy Wake up Interactive and purchase minority stakes in Kadokawa and Rakuten

But god forbid MS buys anything

Very true. But let these fanboys dream, lmao.

Saw some comments that the reason Xbox would be dead is because PS will then get EVERY Star Wars and Marvel game exclusive.

If Disney bought Sony, they’d be massively in debt. Disney would be paying about 85% of their company worth to make it happen. A Sony sale would be around 200 billion.

Disney has less cash on hand than Sony lol.

Also Disney is fighting through a suffering cruise line and entertainment park industry right now. They need cash on the side just in case.

Do you remember what happened with Codemasters a year or two ago? Take Two announced a purchase… EA swooped in and ended up with them.

If they were buying Playstation, we wouldn’t be hearing about it, especially not from randoms on social media

Yep just like we didn’t hear about Microsoft buying Activision
