Take Two and ABK.

If the cma is saying you have to follow Sonys method. Do it and take the two biggest casual games away from them.

Most likely. CoD has made $27B its entire run over 20 years. So thats a double return rate.

People on Twitter who are saying that MS should compete like Sony, don’t know what they are asking for.

If the deal were to fall through and MS re-invested even half of what they spent on ABK, they could lock down 300 Rise of the Tomb Raider-sized 1 year timed exclusives.

Think about that for a second. That’s how bad things could get if Microsoft ever decided to approach things the ‘Sony way’. This doesn’t even include the creative ways to sweeten the pot like a better revenue split.

Some headline title.

We all know they don’t really want that to happen and they know it isn’t realistic, Shinobi and others who keep saying that nonsense, but man would I freaking love it.

Do it then. If that’s how people want them to compete, let them reap what they sow.

People who say that are Sony fans who dont like that Microsoft can operate on a different level.

They took away Elder Scrolls and Fallout Forever… If this deal were successful, Overwatch, Diablo and more.

How? Because Sony didnt own it. They were a communal benefactor and their time ran out.

Renting exclusives and killer IP don’t mean jack when the building gets bought out from under you.

And Xbox fans don’t want to return to the days of Splinter Cell, Titanfall and Mass Effect t.t.t.timed exclusives. We’re done with that.

This was never going to be the death knell for Xbox; ABK has been an unexpected, welcome catalyst to their gaming plans, it never has been some sort of foundation that was required for Xbox to survive.

Suggesting otherwise isn’t aligned with reality.

My biggest issue with this whole fiasco, is the amount of “Xbox should do it the right way” when those same folks would crap all of them if they did it the so called “right way”.

I can’t help but laugh because it means the deal might die, not because cloud gaming is thriving, but because cloud gaming still kind of sucks! Microsoft is being punished because [Google Stadia utterly failed], because [Amazon Luna went nowhere fast], because [Sony got distracted]because [Nvidia can’t stream your own purchased games to you] without negotiating with every publisher and developer under the sun.

It might die because [EA] and [Verizon]) and [AT&T]mostly backed away after they realized the infrastructure costs to do it right didn’t justify weak demand from gamers and that — 5G or no — [a phone is not a great substitute] for a game console. It might die because Apple was so deathly afraid of becoming a dumb pipe for cloud games ) that lock down the iPhone.

He nailed it.

Honestly, Microsoft wouldn’t even need to spend this much if they were a bit more strategic with it. Instead of locking down the entirety of Call of Duty for 10 years, just lock down either Modern Warfare or Black Ops for 1-2 years.

Something like:

  • Sign a 10 year marketing deal for all Call of Duty titles, complete with exclusive perks for Game Pass members
  • All future Modern Warfare titles would be exclusive to Xbox/PC for 1-2 years

Ownership >> Rental when it comes to IP this big.

This we know for a fact; see the reaction following Rise of the Tomb Raider’s initial exclusivity. Xbox and SE received so much hate from gamers and constant pestering from journalists that they had to announce the PS version before Xbox’s ever released. Xbox is damned if they do, damned if they don’t from that crowd.

I agree, as do MS. However in a world where you are no longer allowed to purchase big IP, this is the second best option.

Yep. I’d rather Xbox be hated for buying up studios and publishers and making their IP exclusive forever then loathed for having a timed exclusive once a year.

Just catching up and this is what the decision boils down to: The CMA isn’t protecting the development of cloud gaming, what they are doing is making sure Microsoft isn’t the one to develop it. MS is basically the only company with the means and incentive to develop this, so obviously they would be at a distinct advantage if they spend billions to get if off the ground. The CMA is basically saying we don’t want you to be at the forefront of cloud gaming even it means killing it.

If I am Microsoft I’ll start my villain arc by giving Sega the bag into making Yakuza 8 and Persona 6 timed exclusive for 24 months. I think the internet would lose their mind if that were to happen

Right but folks keep bringing up that brain dead take. The worst is so called Xbox fans doing it. Or “they should invest in their own studios” uhhh last I checked they did! Like at least come up with new material to troll.
