Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT2| The NeverEnding Acquisition

I don’t expect Nvidia and Amazon to support Sony’s argument at all. They are in streaming business too. For Apple, Sony is irrelevant. “Who is Sony?”

Nvidia and Amazon absolutely would not back Sony, I doubt even Google and Apple would want to get involved

MS is trying to upend the Apple store with this move though. Amazon and Nvidia can depend on if they fear MS will be too big to compete with, but I reckon MS has an easy out in backing GF Now with PC Game Pass subs and CoD on Luna for the same unfeasible fair market value price.

So we can conclude they’re playing 4D chess.

Both Amazon and Nvidia know that they have enough resources to compete if necessary. It is not in their interests to oppose the acquisition like this. They don’t need to be placated at all. Both of them can buy publishers if necessary.

I think Google, Amazon and Apple will make passing comments in a negative manner towards MS but they’re all apart of the big boy tech club, they won’t step too far out of line.

If this deal gets blocked, this hurts the rest of them too in the long run.

FTC is essentially on the crusade against the big tech and the only reason they did not oppose Amazon/MGM was because they had 2 dems and 2 republicans at that time.

Still can’t believe they didn’t block that Fox merger.

Disney actively charges small theatres more to show their movies. Bonkers stuff from the FTC over the last decade or so.

If ABK deal was happening under Fox/Disney administration it would pass with flying colors.

Didn’t realize he said this. Did Microsoft headbutt his relative or something? A third party perspective is only shorter because the claim has been said by the one who is challenged, so this one is about reinforcing. Aren’t you journalist, so shouldn’t this be common sense?

The irony is that he is always posting numbers and the reason why Microsoft’s response is big is because MSFT offered…numbers

This whole ABK unmasked so many fanboys.

I mean, the guy is as transparent as can be. He’s deeply emotionally attached to this deal for the sake of his precious PlayStation.

The justice department lost their court case.

And that’s why FTC is doing this nonsense with their internal courts. If they were using laws, they would lose overnight.

Yeah the rest of big tech would be in a pickle. They would love to stick the boot into Microsoft, but they would be full aware that if the FTC won, it would only embolden them even more…

I’m glad there are a fair amount of sensible posters on here compared to some of the bad takes I’ve seen.

I said months/weeks ago when the CMA started questioning that it was political posturing and it would get through with concessions and the same goes for the FTC. It’s all about saving face.

The FTC can look to sue in august they know they ain’t winning. Obviously they hope it doesn’t get through elsewhere so they can say we’d have got it blocked had it come to us. But when it does get approved the FTC can say the threat of being sued by us caused MS to make concessions. It’s a win for us.

MS offering COD on ps plus is obviously calling PlayStations bluff if PlayStation take the bait and pay the high price they wil lose in the long run as you have to wonder if ps will have the appetite to continue paying over the odds for it day 1 when it will effect their bottom line Every year.

It satisfies the regulators giving PS the choice but in reality it puts Sony between a rock & a hard place. They either lose money on their bottom line huge throwing money to get it on PS plus to not look inferior or the don’t pay and they lose players to the Xbox ecosystem in the long run as they move over to Xbox.

The one argument that I do think it’s valid is if you’re a company that can afford to take loses every year with games day 1 on game pass as MS seem to be prepared to do that this does make it difficult for a company ie Sony that can’t afford the lose, then there’s a choice to be made. Either Sony gambles and goes toe to toe with Xbox with the game pass model or they have to re-evaluate as Nintendo did after the GameCube. This may not work and PlayStation could bow out as sega did.

And that is the only valid argument that Sony have is going the way sega did by not being able to keep eating loses from hardware and game sales. Ironically this is what PlayStation did to sega.

Personally I would like to see both models co-exist and have the share of gaming more even like the 360 and ps3 this is when I felt competition was at its best with the games.

Microsoft is making sure that Sony is paying so much to get COD into PS+ that they have nothing left for timed exclusive deals. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That’s basically it or they have less money going toward the next god of war etc Sony are in a no win position
