Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT2| The NeverEnding Acquisition

Activision wouldnt mind. The whole sale goes through before this happens, ABK stock holders get their payout and wash their hands of the issue. Microsoft then has to divest Activision…which means they can be sold to another 3rd party or remain independant…MS could even buy 51% and assume voting control…they wouldnt own CoD at that point…just be a majority share holder in an independant set of studios.

Rolling COD publishing into a different company would probably kill off the chances of COD Day 1 on Game Pass. They’d have to pay ‘market rate’

my stance still hasnt changed from day one. 100% this go though

If the deal doesn’t go through, I could see Microsoft acquiring a lot of other studios

This post is a joke…right? If not…LMAO! :joy:

As an aside, you’ve got to hand it to Jim Ryan and Sony.

They’ve managed to convince the CMA that, somehow, Call of Duty being available on Game Pass and cloud gaming (instead of just £70 retail) is damaging to both poor gamers and cloud only gamers. They’ve also somehow twisted their own market position to hinging almost entirely on this one shooter. Amazing! Genius!

Meanwhile, Sony recently increased the prices of the PS5 and PS5 games in the UK. To ensure that you have to buy a PS5 and PS5 games at said inflated prices, they’ve moneyhatted third party developers specifically requiring them not to release their games on other platforms.

Competition alive and well! Cheers CMA!

i think the stupidity of the cma is infectious

Yeah this caught my attention. Were the deal all but dead to this point ABK’s shares would have collapsed already.

Seems the bet of this going throught or not (or MS abandoning it) still on…who will prevail!!!

We will hear anything when those 2 weeks are over or we will have to wait untio Aphril to know whats happening?

You’d think that the market would collapse after the news, but the news are more positive than expected. Seems MS has been working in remedies for a time.

Yea this tells me the deal will go through. The CMA has not officially considered things we know MS will do, 10 year deal for cod to remain multi platform, COD going to Nintendo consoles.

The current CMA findings have been done and do not consider these things we already know MS is going to offer.

It is very possible that will be enough for the CMA and the deal will go through as is after those details have been hashed out and signed into something legally enforceable .

Activision and Microsofts response (boy, they’re fast) plus the fact that CMA are open to remedies are incredibly encouraging. The doom and gloom is rather weird, to be honest.

But you are talking about a publishing deal. Rather than divesting publishing control rights.

A publishing deal is a contract only. So it’s not structural. There is a contract that is only good so long as good faith is observed.

Structural remedies are such that they are permanent and irreversible.

Letting a third party publish games that Microsoft control and own the IP is merely a behavioural remedy.

People in the know on era say remedies are very rarely if ever accepted. It’s a token gesture on the part of the cma.

I don’t think the CMA has EVER agreed to behavioural remedies like that.

It seems pretty clear cut. Microsoft cannot own Call of Duty and it needs to be sold to a third party publisher.

I’d say there is a 10% chance this deal goes thru. Without CoD I can’t see Microsoft going thru with this deal at all cause they will not get fair value and the rest isn’t worth all that money. That and what, all of Activision itself is pretty much JUST Call of Duty?

Again I stand firm on my opinion, this is going to end up a massive failure from Xbox and set the brand back a few years. So much wasted time.

no one in the era forum is in the know. Except idas. So take their opinions with a grain of salt.

set back why exactly? lol MS has over 25 studios and buying ABK wasnt in their plans. IF it wont go through they will keep heading along as they planned before all this deal.
