The Microsoft ABK deal is nowhere near illegal. If Microsoft was the #1 worldwide leader like Sony is, then okay, I don’t think that anyone would disagree that the deal should be blocked completely but Microsoft is nowhere near #1 and to be honest, I believe most here would agree that it’s highly unlikely that they ever will be regardless of what they do.
Like Jez says, if the deal is illegal, why didn’t the FTC file their injunction in Federal Court? Why go through all this mickey mouse bullshit when they could have just went to Federal Court and due to it being illegal according to Khan, would have easily won? It’s because the deal isn’t close to being illegal, Khan knows this and is just being a pain in the ass while hoping UK/EU do what she didn’t have the balls to do which is to block the deal. SMH.
Glad he is using his influence to get a conversation started that maybe could kick up enough dust to getting more attention to khans plans which at this point go way beyond the ABK deal. Khan is a member of my party but I look at the far left and the far right both as nut jobs. I’m all for regulation but I want it to be fair regulation. What is happening now is prejudice and ignorant, no facts no basis just big tech bad and using bullshit tactics to try to stall or end deals rather than go to district/federal court and present your case.
You can just google UK’s CMA and check the Microsoft ABK deal. There is a lot of information including the names and accomplishments of the panel investigating. I will say the panel does seem to consist of highly accomplished individuals in law and various fields of business, certainly this panel is way more knowledgeable than the phase 1 people.
Not going to say anything about what jez said but…
How do you probe this deal is ilegal? (Seeing this is the reason the FTC challenged the deal) theres no:
Quantitave/qualitative analysis telling us how it will negatively affect the market.
Statements both from third party nor from consumers to even begin to grasp what the video game market think about the deal in the US.
Not a single mention of consumers welfare nor workers.
Heck, not even a single chart to help us understand their (made up from nowhere) "high end console market) and why this would negatively affect said market (and if it does, how? With data and analysis thank you).
backing their lawsuit and its not preventing innovation, on the contrary, its promoting it. Im in the opinion of those saying the FTC decided to challenge the deal as soon as it was announced.
Perhaps not, but there are better ways of conveying that in discussions, by addressing the persons actions and avoiding the person entirely. Thats the clearest way a poster can convey their actual intentions.
I’m not defending anything. As a consumer what Khan is doing, if she succeed will impact my bottom line. Calling her a liar is not wrong. I applaud Jez for going at her.
Lina Khan, if successful, will introduce more inefficiencies to the economy and show economic growth. Not what anyone should want to see in a global recession.
Edit:
This thread is going off topic though, let’s get back to productive discussion.
