It sounds like Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin may have lost too many employees to keep the faith of the Bethesda and Xbox leadership.
Arkane we knew, per Jason Schreier. But Tango, I don’t think we knew that. I do wonder why people left Tango. I mean sure, GT wasn’t a big hit, but HFR received a lot of praise. But I guess by the time that came out the team had already shrunk?
The problem with the talk of leadership/lost of people, is because HFR launched in the process of a the leadership change.
Showing that Tango could potentially become a much better recieved studio, than when they launched Evil Within 2 and Ghostwire with Mikami in charge. But it feels like Mikami leaving somehow was too much of a risk to give the studio a chance. Specially if what the info we got that Mikami didn’t take anyone with him to his new studio is any indication.
As there’s also no indication that the studios size a shrunk too much.
HF: Rush was a small team/budget title. The future of the studio was bigger than that because of their headcount and it seems like there was no one there to lead it. Don’t know for sure, of course, but that felt heavily intimated.
I still wish Microsoft had given them a chance to try, maybe even try to find someone eternally that knows all the ins of running the studio to step up as management.
