Layoffs at Microsoft hit 343 industries and Bethesda Games Studios

As I was saying earlier:

I really wish I was wrong about this.

In the Bloomberg article it says this

He wrote that the studio would continue supporting Halo Infinite’s multiplayer and live service elements.

Can’t help but wonder what this means for SP content. Halo was supposed to be a ten year plan, obviously several story expansions. Had Halo still been one of the few truly big games for Xbox, as a SP fan I would have been one sad panda now. Thankfully there’s so much more in the pipeline now.

I’m only referring to the studio as a whole. I can’t speak on whether the campaign plan is on hold, gone, or remain. That is something that perhaps 343 or any higher up will have to speak on.

True that.

Maybe a seperate team can just make a brand new Halo game not part of Infinite, new campaign. In…who knows how many years. Fingers crossed. Halo deserves so much better though.

What about the coalition though. They seem to be the back bone of xbox game studios. Why lay off people from their team?

It took until recently that a change within has occurred, and I don’t mean only leaving. Only time will tell.

No idea, and I doubt we ever find out why. I’m sure that the layoffs aren’t done yet either. They’ll continue through the financial year at least.

Have to admit the 343 news is causing me some whiplash lol. Years of they should fire everyone at 343 and give the franchise to insert any company and now some of the people who yelled these things are complaining about the layoffs lol

Yeah, these 10k layoffs will supposedly be happening over the course of Q3 FY23. Not over yet.

Sales are irrelevant in gamepasses shadow. Halo had a bigger launch. You can put that down to F2P, but thems the breaks.

Damn, that really sucks for all involved, I wish them all the best.

See i disagree. Microsoft see the tea leaves. Gaming is growing and more profitable than music, movies and tv. However making AAA games takes a massive amount of time and money. Xbox is a major player for Microsoft long term. However AAA games takes a while.

Sales are definitely relevant.

I think the first week of how many players play your game is more irrelevant to me. That’s just the strength of the IP at work. Especially when it comes to a live service.

These games are judged over the span of years, not the first 2 weeks.

Halo Infinite has clearly disappointed massively on that end, FH5 didn’t.

Thems the breaks though.

Because they will invest more into gaming. Satya wants the gaming division to grow but the cost of Microsoft to remain manageable

Let’s be honest. People were not too long ago calling for the heads of 343, is anyone surprised now??.

Not really. Might as well be vinyl sales.

Well…too bad for you i guess.

So shall we discuss it in 5 years then? In 5 yesrs infinite will be …uh 50 or 60 million players and odds are people will still be calling it a failure.

Well it was disappointing in the sense Infinite doubled its launch.

I get the sense that you won’t change your mind despite overwhelming evidence that FH5 was more successful than Infinite lol.

If you want to stick with that narrative then by all means. It’s your opinion lol.

Hey I think it’s interesting that Rare, Turn 10 and Mojang weren’t effect. It looks like The Legendary Sea of Thieves, Forza and Minecraft are keeping peoples jobs. This year will be crucial for Xbox. I still believe Starfield will come out in before July so it will be part of Xbox’s financial records for Microsoft. I hope the people that lost their jobs can rebound

343 I’m not surprised about, bit disappointed it apparently is a big part of the campaign team. But I definitely am surprised about Bethesda. Although it seems unclear if that means mostly BGS or like from several Bethesda/Zenimax studios.
