Larry Hryb on Bluesky: "Not Everything Needs A Winner Or Loser. Choice Is Always Good."

It’s been an interesting 24-hours in Gaming as I read the previews and debate about the new Steam hardware.

Remember: Not everything needs a winner or loser. Choice is always good.

Game where, how and when you like.

Where YOU find YOUR fun is all that matters. :green_heart::blue_heart::heart::black_heart:

The end, and they all lived happily ever after because they let themselves do so.

Precisely, it’s never been a zero-sum game, no matter how much the console warriors wanted to pretend it was. The industry has been changing drastically over the last five years and most of what’s happening was pretty much what I called 3-5 years ago, and I’d argue it’s for the better for gamers overall (I know I’d prefer to buy one copy of game and be able to play it across all/most of my devices instead of one…)

While I don’t see a personal use case for the new Steam hardware, I always made it explicitly clear that was for my needs; I absolutely see the value in more options and see that there are plenty of people out there that will find value, even if I have reservations about its specs at its time of release and am not a fan of SteamOS personally (sorry, I use my PCs for more than just gaming and I deal with Unix-based OSes enough every day of my work life.)

The thing is, gaming is not fun for them but arguing on Twitter is.

We just need to force Sony to drop exclusivity and we’re golden, exclusivity is such an outdated concept in a world with so many freaking devices that can run games.

I’m inclined to agree that it’s a strategy for yesterday, not tomorrow. But it’s working for Sony right now, and they’re not getting off that train one minute earlier than they absolutely have to.
