It’s really cool for Xbox to let them do whatever they want and roll with it. It’s a great reminder that not all games from their studios portfolio go for typical scope.
Really the kind of game you need to play yourself.
I myself got bored after a while during the direct because I got impatient just wanting to see Fable and it took a bit too long. They had us waiting until the end for that, mofos, lmao.
It’s Double Fine. It’s clearly very unique and some really cool stuff in here. Just need to play it myself. Hope their next game is singleplayer though, they shine at that.
Doesn’t hurt to try. We got one last year and this year is multiplayer. Feels like we will get a new one each year and that alone is a win.
I’m not sure it’s been said already (probably), but with Keeper and now Kiln, I think the idea is to pump up multiple smaller games in a year so if something doesn’t stick, there’s another one coming right after. I hope it works for Double Fine and Xbox, because these concepts are fresh!
I went back and have been watching all of the stuff from the 2017 amnesia fortnight, not just the cut that ended up in Psychodyssey, it’s cool to see how much this has grown since then and how much of the original is still there.
So they’re not in this trailer obviously, but the devs really did sell me on this game. Especially the creative director. He gave Black Jack energy for me. I thought he was Black Jack for a fat minute. Them explaining how the game came from an intentional studio culture of “just forget everything we are working on and pitch literally whatever” was fantastic. That’s fantadtic I’ve really come to love the dev direct style. I’m not someone super connected to following studios or the creators in this space, so I don’t really know developers by name or who they are as people or what a studios culture is. The dev direct is a nice look into that and they don’t overstay their welcome.
The studio actually has a pretty big history of working with Jack Black, and while you may not be super into a ton of behind the scenes for the studio, the beginning of this episode from their documentary on Psychonauts 2 is Jack recording for that game and is pretty fun. If the YouTube link doesn’t work, also adding a link to the same video on their site.
