They took keep them independent too literally.

The way they worded about ā€œMake or Breakā€ makes it very concerning if you ask me.

Destiny 2 will be 7 years old when the next expansion releases. If it fails to recapture its audience, what will be the point in trying to revive it any further?

Bungie needs to make it feels like it’s under control. The revenue miss is really rough that it made Square look profitable.

If it was Xbox, there would already be dozens of articles saying that Phil’s ā€œhands-off approachā€ is destroying their studios lol

Maybe Jim retired when Sony saw Bungie’s true color. After all, they did cancel Factions.

I said it when the reports came in that there will almost certainly be developers at PlayStation’s other studios who would be livid to have another studio come in and basically shit on their games.

Let’s just say that with the news coming out of Bungie, that animosity is unlikely to have dissipated.

If MS got shit on over Redfall, Sony needs to be held accountable for Bungies fuck ups.

Arkane lives and expand; Bungie falls for one failed expansion.

It isn’t a surprise at all, most people skipped it because it came without a story mode and unlike today you needed that back then. But man, those dogfights were fun and sadly there is nothing like it.

Hilarious how this adverted yet Bungie still asking for medic.

The usual suspects are doing hardcore damage control. Don’t worry guys, bloodborne 2 inbound!

I’d love to see it, or even a remaster of the original Bloodborne. But From Soft would rather work on IPs they actually own, so they aren’t interested, and Sony can’t make Bloodborne into a GaaS, so THEY aren’t interested.

The statement is leading more people to question that Jim Ryan leaving wasn’t planned. Cutting half their expected output of games as a service titles from 12 to 6 along with every shrinking profit margins(down to 5% on the games division despite very good revenue) have some question Sony deciding to make a sharp adjustment in it’s future

Don’t take it the wrong way when I say, PS is in trouble. No, it won’t die and no, it won’t go out of business. However, they definitely having a bad gaming moment, similar to WB, where they have good sales for one or two franchises, but the overall needs plenty of work. That’s PS right now. As long it’s not Embracer bad, they can recover in due time.

Next year will be challenging as there are nothing but new IP, which one can be argued as niche (Stellar Blade). Unsure if Death Stranding 2 is releasing next year. When it comes to timed exclusive, FFVIIR2 would help but more on Square. SH2 is questionable because we don’t know if there’s a large fan base to support it. As for marketing, CoD is now on Microsoft, so that alone is a shot on the leg.

Next year will be a great challenge for PS. I don’t want to say sink or swim, but it definitely need to show that they can swim just as fine.

That’s not what they have done.

In the VGC article it’s pretty clear that they have just delayed 6 of the original planned 12 as the quality wasn’t good enough and that GaaS is still a major focus for the company.

ā€œThat’s the total number of live service and multiplayers titles [and] mid-to-long-term we want to [push] this kind of service and that’s the unchanged policy of the company.ā€

So confirmation that the pivot from Gaas is a lie, and that the Gaas game are indeed troubled.

Keep in mind that the 6 before 2026 would include two MLB games….

They definitely aren’t in trouble in the short or mid term, they will be able to coast through the rest of this generation with little to no trouble, the ā€œbrandā€ of PS is so strong that they will sell perfectly fine with or without games

It’s the long term they need to start worrying about, getting into mobile and GaaS is harder than it’s ever been and people will whine because they don’t want to accept it but major companies without GaaS and mobile are going to be in trouble in the years ahead

I’m really surprised we havent heard about their mobile initiative when most players in the industry have done something there (I dont count the savage acquisition as whatever they are doing is DOA)

Fair enough. I guess you can say they will be in that WB range if they don’t solve the issue now. Basically down the road, they will be in trouble. Won’t go out of business, of course, but definitely going to feel the pain.
