So, like many consumers, I am browsing Black Friday game deals and I have to turn a blind eye to any physical Xbox games because I have an XSX in my living room and an XSS in my bed room. I’d like to imagine it’s not that rare for people on the Xbox ecosystem to own both consoles.
Because the XSS is an all digital system, I don’t buy any physical games for my XSX because I love the convenience of being able to have the games playable on both of my systems. I would love for Microsoft to implement a feature where owners of both systems can have their physical collection still accessible on their XSS at no extra cost to the consumer.
My thought would be that if you own a physical game, your XSS would be able to download and play a digital version of it as long as the following rules are met:
-
the physical game you want to play digitally on your XSS must be in your XSX system at all times whilst playing on the XSS. The XSX will be in an authentication mode where it cannot be played on while the XSS is linked to it utilizing the disc game as a license to play the digital copy on the XSS.
-
Both systems must be connected to the internet consistently so that Microsoft’s servers can validate the disc is in the XSX and the XSS is accessing the game.
-
If the disc is removed or someone begins playing a game on the XSX, it revokes the linked XSS’ ability to play the digital version of that game.
What are you thoughts on this? Is this realistic or am I completely off base here? Will this be a no go because Microsoft would rather just sell the XSS a gamepass subscription? Or (better yet) is someone from the Xbox system dev team gonna read this, love it, and give me a fat check for my idea?
