We don’t know the exact cause, but 343 saw the feedback regarding not having a dedicated Slayer mode at launch, and so introduced an update on the 8th that added Team Slayer, FFA, Fiesta (as a permanent playlist), and Swat.
For whatever reason, after that update, BTB match making started to not work properly. Especially if you were in a party, you’d never be able to load into a match. This was pretty bad, as BTB is the go to casual game mode and christmas time is always a huge influx of casual players. Not to mention the developers took a well deserved break after launch, so the timing as pretty bad.
I’m definitely going to replace myself on Tuesday to see how it’s working now, but yeah I’ve been playing lesser these days than I did in December.
I think 343 shot themselves in the foot by calling this the mid season update. That to me implies new content. This really isn’t anything more than a patch. A good patch to be sure, decent amount of stuff that’s needed. But it’s left a lot of people disappointed notably people like mint blitz’s and other popular community guys.
Also think it’s nuts that they don’t have a roadmap yet. The multiplayer has been out for more than 3 months. They said it would be out in January. They where dead silent all January till the last day. They delayed the roadmap without giving a date. Idk why it’s so hard to say in-depth what will be coming in season 2 and 3 at least.
I’ve come to terms that we won’t be getting any more content till season 2. I just hope they stop taking content out of ranked.
I dunno I find the reaction pretty surprising, they’ve only ever talked about this as a patch for fixing stuff - I’d never gotten the impression it was anything more than that. Weird to suddenly see people mad it doesn’t have new maps and stuff.
A dev from the Halo 5 team talked about the first year of content recently, apparently what they put out was iust hugely unsustainable and it burned them out completely trying to deliver on it. Not really surprising they didn’t do that again. Also, it’s not as if Halo Infinite has had nothing, it’s still miles above BF2042 which didn’t even have it’s battlepass ready to go. Infinite has at least had a battle pass, regular events to unlock cosmetic content, new game modes and their patches and hotfixes have so far fixed most of the games biggest problems.
That’s because releasing a roadmap and then delaying stuff from said roadmap would just make people send more hateful messages. So they have to be careful with what’s on it.
First-Person Animations
This update should address an issue that was preventing first-person animations from interpolating correctly. If you’ve ever spotted some framerate issues while clambering or reloading (or any other first- person action), you should see those run more smoothly next week.
Finally!
Campaign Improvements
We’ll see multiple improvements in the Campaign experience. Whether it’s addressing issues with Achievements unlocking or returning to the game via Quick Resume, the team has been working on a handful of fixes for campaign since launch and there will be more on the way. Be sure to read the Patch Notes on the Halo Support site next week for more details.
This is so so crazy to me. I’m absolutely docking points for the slowness of content updates, lack of roadmap and breaking BtB. But 343 have responded to almost every complaint in a few weeks. Playlists, challenges, XP, store, battle pass and more. I’d be voting mixed, not poor.
